Temporary Childcare

I just wanted to ask how easy it will be too get temporary Childcare for my twins for 1 month as our childminder is going abroad to see her mum. We're currently not with her but she looked after my daughter and we all love her as she's fairly flexible with what we need as a family. I am looking at nannies but the thought of doing payroll etc puts me off. I can barely just about do my own admin for work with the twins.
Please could you recommend a website as Google comes up with so many and I don't know where to start. We've only ever had aupairs and childminders for the older 2.
The twins are 20 months old.

Childcare.co.uk or gumtree? Most likely a temporary nanny would be your best option. There are a lot of agencies which offer temporary childcare, but it can become quite expensive when you add on the agency fees. Bubble (app) is quite good as they don't charge parents any fees but I believe they only work in certain areas so depends where you live.

I would ask your childminder if they know any local childminders who have spaces available. Your local Family Information Service - usually run by County Council - may also be able help point you towards other childminders with spaces.

If you do go down the nanny route - then Zest Payroll does short term payroll admin. www.zestpayroll.co.uk/nanny-payroll/

@Applefruitcake thanks a lot. Will have a look at these. @nannynick I have asked her as well and she promised to get back to me. I think the issue is that it's only going to be for 1 month. But thanks a lot. Will have a look

Childminders often have good networks of friends - mine always had an agreement with others to cover each other where possible in emergency situations? Definitely ask if any of them have space but failing that childcare.co.uk does seem to be helpful and we definitely have used before

Could you & your partner (if there is one) not take 2 weeks holidays each?
Might be awkward, but it’s a solution…..maybe.

Ummusomebody · 18/02/2022 10:53

@FelicityPike yes we could but we try to save the holidays for school holidays otherwise we'd be paying a lot for all four then. I'm self employed and at the moment I haven't booked anything for March. So if I don't get anyone I just would take those weeks off. DH is employed and we try to spread his holiday through the year as well.
