Right, who else is currently on the hunt for a new nanny?

I need a support thread because it is usually so much easier than this. I've had several e-mails from young girls with babysitting experience who have quoted their worth at about £400-£500 per week (And I assume they meant net). They are bonkers! Truly bonkers.

But, tonight, I finally ready a completed questionnaire from someone who seemed lovely. She still way more than what I pay now... but the figure was at least realistic. Maybe I can entice her with my divine little angels... HA!!

So, I know others are looking now. How is it going? Come talk to me and tell me you are having a rough time too. We can open the mumsnet virtual bar and have a couple drinks. Make mine a double.

I'm looking trouble is currently I only want before/after school but on the plus side would consider temp as well as perm. We've just been strung along by someone for over a week before she said no so now I'm panicking since I really needed it for Monday. I'm off to look at Gumtree!
Saw nicks thread about the job ad so am off to compose a very long one

Is it really worth posting on gumtree, there are hundreds of ads every day? Any other suggestions as to where else to look? Thanks

I think it is. Some nannies undoubtedly apply to loads of the jobs, but I've had a good response from them previously. Am hoping for another as of this weekend! Fingers crossed. The problem is not so much volume as suitability...

1dilemma · 03/01/2008 01:52

Oh didn't think anyone else was up!!
Will have to try and put something together then. Have you had much success with anywhere else? (Might go to bed before you reply but will look tomorrow thanks)

I am in the US at the moment on holiday, hence still online sporadically. I have advertised in Simply Childcare with more limited success. We're not in a great area for the publication - you might fare better. I'm also considering nanny job this time around...but I reckon there may be overlap and you can end up paying twice (or more) to access the same pool of applicants.

nannynick · 03/01/2008 07:11

If it helps, I got my last job from looking on NannyJob.co.uk - family had advert on there, and on NannySelect.co.uk. Not sure how much info you can put on NannyJob, I recall that when I contacted the family via NannyJob they gave me their NannySelect adnumber, so I could read more about the job there.

nannynick · 03/01/2008 07:16

I agree that there is probably quite a lot of overlap between Gumtree and NannyJob, but their combined cost (£45 for London area) is still quite low.

Nannies - where do you look for jobs?
Parents - where have you found to be good places to advertise?

frannikin · 03/01/2008 12:15

I look Gumtree and NJ as a nanny. Gumtree is better for odd days/temp/PT jobs.

nannyj · 03/01/2008 19:45

I only look at agency jobs, couldn't cope with the volume and organise all the interviews myself. Plus agency jobs tend to offer better pay in my experience.

omega2 · 03/01/2008 21:00

i look on nannyjob, gumtree, job cerntre plus all the agencies i can find but sadly still no success

foxinsocks · 04/01/2008 10:42

well we have (fingers crossed everyone) employed someone to start next week (advertised via gumtree). She seems lovely and the children got on well with her when we all met.

Apart from her, although we did get a fair few applicants, very few of them met all our criteria (and we are, by no means, demanding in any way!).

We have been totally spoilt with the absolutely fabulous NiftyNanny who has helped us this week and a week in December. My goodness, her new family are so lucky - she's like a modern day Mary Poppins .

GloriaInEleusis · 04/01/2008 11:49

Congrats, Fox!

Ps There's a meet up in Richmond on Feb 1st. Do you want to come?

Thanks. I don't want to jinx it by even being slightly excited until the first week is over!

I am doing a diary session this weekend so will let you know about the 1st. Thanks for asking.

Has anyone mentioned greatcare? I've found them quite useful, but all my nanny jobs have been through gumtree, even abroad, Im with 10+ agencies and they are useless. Even my new job, with SN babby, through gumtree. And I've met famous people through gumtree ads!
