Some do, but it’s unusual. I have seen in home ed Facebook groups people mention they use a childminder formsome of the day and do the home ed before and after but it’s hard to find.

ReadtheFT · 05/02/2022 22:03

There are home ed childminders as well.

thanksfor your reply. this is what I thought. my LA list of registered CM's doesn't specify. some say they take older children [iup to age 11] but don't say the timings.... I'm just seeing what is out there and what is possible... thanks again.

Yes they can do. Ask in your local home ed group on Facebook and they will direct you to any in your area.

DelurkingAJ · 05/02/2022 22:15

My CM takes my DC for inset days and the like. I’m pretty sure she’d do so (but she does also do our wrap around).

Kitkat151 · 05/02/2022 22:16

So you want your child to be home schooled.....but not at home?

BitterTits · 05/02/2022 22:17

Not sure why you'd home ed and then put your child in an age inappropriate setting during the day. Wouldn't it be somewhat dull and socially restrictive for them?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 05/02/2022 22:18

Would you expect the CM to deliver home schooling?

busyeatingbiscuits · 05/02/2022 22:18

Some might, but generally if they have a baby and a couple of toddlers in the day they will be going to library rhyme time, toddler groups, nap time in the afternoon. Can't see many 9 year olds wanting to tag along.

busyeatingbiscuits · 05/02/2022 22:19

You'd be better off finding a home ed forest school if you want day time childcare.

KnobJockey · 05/02/2022 22:21

As above. Its unlikely that the setting would be suitable- most childminders have pre schoolers during the day and cater their setting to them. Theu have to fulfil Ofsted stuff, and I imagine it would be very hard to meet the needs of possibly a 1 year old, 3 year old and 9 year old.

I can't see how you can do both . Surely you won't expect a CM to deliver the parts of the curriculum you won't be covering?
OnlyFoolsnMothers · 05/02/2022 22:23

Yeh doesn’t sound much fun for your child- a 9year old and a bunch of preschoolers!!!

Sablemablelable · 05/02/2022 22:28

Echoing what others have said. You need to be realistic about what the CM can offer your DC unless they are a home schooling.

Our CM obviously took our older kids in school holidays and after school hours. But in term time during the day, she had a baby and a load of toddlers. Her activities were tailored towards that age group.

ReadtheFT · 05/02/2022 22:32

OP can easily have the child with a childminder(there are often often home ed childminders that watch few older kids) and take care of the child's education at different times.
Otherwise as mentioned there are forest schools settings, or home ed coops, and so on. Home education does not need to happen in school hours.

Thesearmsofmine · 05/02/2022 22:35

I love it when people answer posts with zero knowledge.

Home ed childminders usually have older children rather than toddlers and babies. They are not expected to be the child’s teacher, the parent remains responsible for the child’s education. Plenty of people work part time and home educate.

Wow....interesting comments !
I posted looking for advice rather than judgement!

Have you asked local schools about flexi schooling? That way you wouldn’t have to pay for cm

gogohm · 06/02/2022 09:06

Some may for a day but when are you going to do the educating if you are at work? Child minders can't be used as teachers. If you aren't able to home Ed, (most people have to work, nothing unusual) just send your dc to school

mermaidsvssuperheros · 06/02/2022 09:17

Thank you for the advice!
Really appreciate it.
this iss a great idea. I'll look into it and see what I can find out.

Hi, I think you will just have to contact your local childminders and see what they say, like others have said usually term time and during school hours they have babies and toddlers and are out going to groups where a school age child will not be able to attend due to that activities insurance e.g. playgroups If you are just wanting childcare you should be fine but I can’t see a childminder agreeing to teach your child “school” subjects etc but could maybe give them a quite space to completed work own their own you have set.Have you looked on Facebook for look your local home ed sites there will be loads of families on there who may be able to advise which childminders to use or local groups that run while you are at work.

Pythonesque · 06/02/2022 09:21

We have a Montessori school near us that used to offer sessional attendance (primary age) and I remember thinking what a great option it could be as a supplement to home schooling. But in recent years it seems to be predominantly full time looking at the website. However that might be another type of option to look around for.

Simple question: CAN a CM take older children during the day?

Simple answer is: YES (depending on CM)!

Thanks to those of you who have taken the time to advise. It's really appreciated
