Family's Cheating on me!

So, I just started working with a new family this week. It is supposed to be an ongoing position - 2 days a week. Everything (seemingly) went well on the first day, but then when I came back for the second day (there was a gap between days) I found out they had another nanny is between! Is this normal practice? Should I be worried about my job?

Sounds more like some sort of job share you weren't aware of

TheCanyon · 07/01/2022 20:56

The other nanny likely has another role and they didn't want to lose her. Totally normal imo

Bessica1970 · 07/01/2022 20:58

They may want two part time so there’s potential back up if one is ill.

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 07/01/2022 20:58

They’re not cheating on you! Jesus

It’s not that unusual to have two nannies, I’ve done 2/3 days a week for multiple families who have another nanny on the other days - most commonly because they had one nanny first who couldn’t do all days needed so hired a second for those days

Applefruitcake · 07/01/2022 22:07

It sounded like she was new too (I didn't want to ask questions), also the mum has just gone back to work so most likely isn't a case of an existing nanny who couldn't do certain days.

The back-up nanny idea sounds more likely. I'm wondering if they're trialling us out at the same time and planning on choosing one.

BTW the cheating thing was just a lighthearted joke

Sounds like 2 part time nannies BUT I do find it unusual that they never mentioned anything. I would just ask, honestly.

I think this is very likely. How old are the children? You may find out from them.

Yes, they never mentioned anything beforehand nor did they ask if I was available on the extra day the other nanny was there. You're right, I could try to bring it up casually. I don't mind if they want two nannies, but just want to know if my job is in danger

This is what I'm worried may be the case. The baby is only 6 months old (just 1 child) so not much chance there 😅

If they are trialling you both without informing you then that is pretty awful of them. I wouldn't want to work for people like that. You should both turn down the jobs and get better employers 😂

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/01/2022 13:56

Weird they didn’t mention it at interview

DarkCorner · 10/01/2022 13:59

My first thought is that they're hedging their bets (esp with the current Covid situation) that it's better to have 2 nannies so that if one is isolating/sick, they will at least have childcare part of the week? And they could be thinking they might be able to get the non-sick nanny to cover? It does seem strange they haven't told you though!

sweetbellyhigh · 10/01/2022 20:12

Did you find out yet?

I haven't been back yet but will update if I find out anything
