If a 4 year old is starting full time school in January will he still be classed as an over-5 during holidays when he's with me? And on the 7th Jan when he's with me all day even though he doesn't start school until the 8th?

i would say so, theya r classed as 'rising 5' once they begin 10 full sessions, even if the are with you full days(teacher training school hols etc), they cant change your ratios against you for one or two days!?...i dont think!

Must be in 10 Educational Sessions - so if school is Full Time, then yes... will be classed as a 5 year old for ratio purposes, from the date he starts school (8th Jan).

From Childminding National Standards (2003):
2.4 Children aged four attending ten early education sessions a week may
be classed as children over five years for the purposes of the adult:child
ratio.

So on the 7th he is still classed as an under 5. How silly. Thanks.

You cannot count him as an over 5 in the holiday preceding his starting full time school.

If he hasn't attended full time school this term and does not begin full time school until 8th Jan then he is counted as an under 5 up to and including 7th Jan. Even though the 8th is a Tue and he won't have done a full week til week commencing 14th Jan I believe you are okay to count him as an under five from the 8th. After he has attended full time school he will continue to be counted as an over five during term-time and school holidays.

yes, anytime BEFORE he starts full time school, he wills till be classed as under 5, you could call ofsted to ask if they would adjust ratio for this time, they were very obliging with me the other day
