Could I find this? Live out plus some weekends

Is it possible to find such a thing as a live out nanny or childcarer who would do some weekends overnight?

I’m a single parent, bereaved of the children’s Dad, so parenting solo. I have no family who can help. What I could do with is help with school runs, some occasional overnights at weekend so I could get away to stay with my sister or boyfriend occasionally without kids for a break.

Currently don’t have space really for a live in nanny.

Grateful for thoughts.

Just to clarify I mean I need help during the week as well as occasional weekends. DC are at school, so the hours would be some school runs, some after school etc

I think finding a regular after school nanny is quite difficult as most nannies wouldn't want to work for only a few hours a day. It might appeal to someone who's studying or doing other part time work. Try Koru Kids which specialise in after school childcare. I think an after school club or childminder may work better in your situation and then get an occasional babysitter.

I agree with pp. You want an after-school club or childminder and then a weekend babysitter (relatively easy to find).

Finding an after-school nanny will be difficult.

Thanks, though for (occasional) weekends I mean overnight and during the day: potentially whole weekend. Is that easy to find?

We have a nanny that does 35 hours a week as her regular week but will do occasional overnights on top

Beware overnights are expensive though…
The usual convention is to pay £15/hr from 7am-midnight and £7.50/hr (half rate)

We recently went away for 2 nights and the babysitting bill cost more than the hotel bill..!

Easy enough to find, but as pp said, you've got to pay enough.

Sorry that should have said
The usual convention is to pay £15/hr from 7am-midnight and £7.50/hr (half rate) from midnight to 7am, so it still costs a fair bit for the time while the nanny is asleep

Yes I'd opt for childminder/ after school club in the week and then advertise for the occasional weekend nanny on childcare.co.uk (or word of mouth)
It is expensive like @SW1amp but I wouldn't say that expensive. I'm not in London but am on some nanny Facebook groups and the general consensus is hourly rate 6/7am - 10pm and then a set overnight fee of £40/50.
For context my hourly rate is £12.

How many dc and what ages roughly.

If your kids are old enough and fairly well behaved I’m wondering if you could offer to swap a weekend of childcare with another family you know. So you have their kids one weekend and they get a break, they have yours for a weekend and you get a break. No cost and also the dc will prefer that to being left with a random weekend nanny, I imagine.

If you were my friend and you’d lost your DH I’d have your kids for an occasional weekend to give you a break, in fact I’d do it without a swap in return. Do you have any good friends you could ask?

PS agree that after school nannies are very hard to find right at the moment . You might get lucky but chances of finding someone who wants after school hours plus the odd weekend is quite slim.
