Would a nanny do this?

Well I think I will try again to find a nanny in the New Year, but was wondering whether a nanny would do this (my dp says it's too much)!
Basically it's take and collect our oldest (reception yr) from school, trouble is we have 3, the school is about 30 mins walk away (maybe a bit less) there is also the option of bus!

I'm sure they would if there was a fallback option of taking the bus. Do you have a double buggy for the two youngest? Is there no chance of offering a car? Perhaps the nanny might have her own car which she could use and you'd pay petrol.

My nanny walks about 1/2 mile to the bus, gets on it for about 15-30 minute (depending on traffic) bus ride to drop DD off at school w DS (2 1/2 yrs) in tow. And goes back to pick DD up at noon. She does this M-F.

So, yes, definitely this is a reasonable expectation. Just make it clear at the interview that this is required.

How old are the other two kids?

I also have a longish journey to school (20 mins at a very brisk pace, 30 mins with a buggy), with only a limited bus option. So I'm doing 2 x 1 hour there and back every morning for my 3 year old (without babies in a buggy).

Quite honestly, it's very tiring and it does have an impact on what you do with the child(ren) the rest of the day. So, although you can ask your nanny quite reasonably to do this, don't have too many expectations about how much else she does ie visits to park, play dates etc or you'll completely knacker her

My nanny does this with DS2 in tow, no bother. She walks unless it rained, and even then they got wet sometimes. If it's really horrid she drives.

She is looking after a third child at the moment as well on a temporary basis. He comes too. She has also agreed to collect a child in the class on the way to school for a couple of weeks as the child's mum has just had a c/section. So sometimes she takes 4....

The play dates and other activities factored this in. So sometimes a crowd went from the school straight to the park, either impromptu, or organised with a picnic. DS2 went to a music class which was selected basically because it fitted in well with pick up from reception.

Personally, I don't think it's too much to ask your nanny. You might find you don't know enough about your child's school and school friends though, if you never do pick up or drop off. You could reduce the load on your nanny by doing some of the school runs - which would mean at least the teachers recognised you.

Thanks Guys
yes have a double but a bit of a nightmare getting it on a bus! (double nipper 360!).
Driving a bit of a nightmare London so horrendous traffic and no parking then she has to get the other 2 out of the car and drag everyoena few feet etc etc. I'm hoping wiht Sumer coming it might be OK. Think I probably need a sturdy nanny though.
Although on the bright side there are a squillion classes/parks/swings/coffee shops between here and school!!

How old are the other two? I do think it is perfectly normal to expect the nanny to do the school runn however you would do it.

No experience myself but it seems reasonable - surely it's walk with the double or take the bus and stick the littlest one in a single buggy

I am a nanny and yes i would do this in my previous job we had a twenty minute walk to the local primary school more so when the youngest was at a nursery on the other side of town . Its a great chance to talk about the childs day i used to get mine to practise their spellings work out differant routes differant adventures to and fro school. They were certaintly much fitter than some of their friends and it was also good for me. Also with the option of the bus i am sure loads of people would go for it.
