Jus as the title says really, if you employ a nanny would you expect her to come into your home and look after your child who’s tested positive for covid?

Realistically I think Nanny's already got it if she's going to but no, she shouldn't be asked to work.

AmyDeirdre · 06/11/2021 21:08

Definitely not.

Samthenanny · 06/11/2021 21:09

Thanks everyone.
I did make it clear I was not happy at all but as I’m fully vaccinated they see no problem with it.
The child is home isolating but all over the house not in a room like a adult would be, then I’m going back to my own house with my husband who’s going to work also

Time to start looking for a new job.

Longdistance · 06/11/2021 21:12

No. They’re taking the piss. You should not be looking after your charge at all.

Groovee · 06/11/2021 21:14

Are they providing full PPE and a risk assessment?

jamsandwich1 · 06/11/2021 21:14

Absolutely not. How dare they? I hope you are ok and perhaps time to look for a new job

InTheLabyrinth · 06/11/2021 21:14

If you were live in, possibly. Would depend on the dynamics.
But not if you lived out - its not essential care, is it?

Heruka · 06/11/2021 21:14

I was ready to right ‘are you having a fucking laugh’ then I realised you are the nanny and not the employer. This is shocking - their disregard for you and your family’s health, and disregard of public health rules. It sounds like you have been already? If not please say no fucking way.

Nikki305 · 06/11/2021 21:16

Isn't this illegal?

ballsdeep · 06/11/2021 21:17

That's awful and what utterly shit parents. God forbid they need to actually parent their child

spotcheck · 06/11/2021 21:18

So, would they still pay you if YOU were off for an extended amount of time?

MissM2912 · 06/11/2021 21:18

Totally unacceptable. Private daycare wouldn’t take the child.

Tillsforthrills · 06/11/2021 21:20

Is this a joke?

Samthenanny · 06/11/2021 21:21

@Tillsforthrills

Is this a joke?
Sadly not no

Tillsforthrills · 06/11/2021 21:22

Whoops sorry I’ve just read it properly.

I’d be giving notice to them!

Samthenanny · 06/11/2021 21:23

@spotcheck

So, would they still pay you if YOU were off for an extended amount of time?
Yes normally so that’s not the issue. It’s mainly so they can still both go to work otherwise would have to wfh and sort childcare as well

@Groovee

Are they providing full PPE and a risk assessment?
No not at all
OP posts:
WorkingItOutAsIGo · 06/11/2021 21:36

Just no. Other illnesses yes, Covid no.

Heavymetaldetector · 06/11/2021 21:38

Absolutely not. They would be sent away from school or other setting so no.

Bluntness100 · 06/11/2021 21:38

No of course not, but I can see why some folks would be under enough pressure to request it,

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 06/11/2021 21:40

According to the official guidelines you can't go in. You would be considered a visitor to the home as you are not an essential career regulated by the care quality commission.

Happyhappyday · 06/11/2021 21:40

No. It’s specifically in our nanny’s contract that if anyone is exposed, everyone stays home & nanny still gets paid regular hours.

Now nanny is vaccinated if she offered to look after DC I’d take her up on it, but only because I know 100% she does not feel obligated and would only offer if she felt comfortable (snd I doubt she would).

ChristmasGrogu · 06/11/2021 21:42

No, sorry they are asking this of you, although I hope you don’t get it if you’ve already likely been exposed. There will be a difference with you getting it now and a bigger viral load if you’re caring for him.

Verbena87 · 06/11/2021 21:42

No no fucking no. I’m a teacher and surrounded by covid soup but if a pill is confirmed positive they can’t legally be in my care so I can’t see why it would be any different for you. There is risk balanced against social, educational or economic benefits, and then there’s flagrant disregard for someone’s wellbeing.
