Data Protection - can I do this??

Due to circumstances I've had to put in a claim to see if I'm entitled to housing benefit and I have to go in on Friday to show documentation and sign a few forms. But because I'm a CM she needs to see who I have had on my books to verify income for the past 9 months as I haven't been CM long enough to do my first self assessment. So she's asking to see contracts for the children I have had cared for.

Can I do this? I didn't think I could, but need to check before I query it.

No

But you could photocopy the contracts and block out all identifying information and show them that (which will have hours & rates on them)

I didn't think I could!! It was only when I put the phone down that I thought about it!!

I'll do as you say and photocopy them. I could take my accounts book in as well as extra proof?

How about your bank statements with the C/M money highlighted?

Not sure about accounts book - do you put the child name in?

I've got to take my bank statements in as well. My accounts book only has the child's first name in it - no surnames or any other details.

That should be OK - Actually I don't know if that would be OK or not

joyfulspike · 12/12/2007 20:29

I think as long as you can't identify who that person is, its ok

I'm sure my accounts book will be ok, as it doesn't have any information in there that would interfere with the data protection act. There is no way they can do anything with just their first names, surely!
