My lovely daily nanny earns £330 net per week, to go up to £350 in January (though she doesn't know that yet...). This will be our first Christmas "together"; I don't want to embarrass anyone; what would be the going rate for a bonuc or Christmas present? I figure cash may be most appreciated; is £100 too little? £150? £150 plus a bottle of bubbly??? Advice anyone??? Thanks!

I'm sure money is very much appreciated by any nanny. One of my employers were quite extravagant and they got me a beautiful lladro statue of a yogini from Harrods which I absolutely love. £100 would be great.

whilst i love money (whatever amount) as a bonus i think i thoughtful present makes me happier.

Something my boss knows I will like... rather than a box of chocs or something!

Again, cash is appreciated - but a thoughtful present is better.

Just a plain cash bonus might make me feel a bit but cash and something the children had made or chosen would be fine. I don't expect my bosses to spend vast amounts of money though!

Cash would work for me although i got Selfridges vouchers for my birthday which was really nice too. my presents have been a bit hit and miss tbh. God that sounds so ungrateful

Spockster · 12/12/2007 10:34

Hit & miss os what I want to avoid; I hate spending money at Christmas which turns out to be on an unwanted gift!
Maybe a cash bonus and a small personal gift is best....if only I could remember what I would have liked for Christmas when I was in my twenties!!!

As a Nanny (before my childminding days), I had a day at a champneys health spa with sooo many treatments included... It did equate to almost a whole weeks pay but it was so unreal and amazing that it was very much enjoyed and i even met Joan Collins!
I would never have spent that amount on myself so it was such a treat. You can get a top to toe day for around £150 or even different days for less.

Some of my friends say they would have prefered the cash but i was so greatful, still have great memories of that day even 5years later... x

Wow a week's net pay is very generous...if I did that I don't think I'd be so keen to give a birthday present, and one-offs from trips away, etc...

I'm going to but mine a forklift so she can clean her room.

NiftyNanny · 12/12/2007 13:29

Kkey sounds like she's onto something, that'd the kind of thing I'd love - or a voucher for Afternoon Tea at the Ritz (I am a cake fiend) or something similar. Lastminute.com have some nice looking gift ideas if you could find something she'd be in to.

There is even a chocolate making day which is quite cheap but looks fun and you can take a friend!
