Birthday and Christmas bonuses/ presents for nannies

Hi all

We started using a full time nanny earlier this year. I have not one clue how big a birthday and Christmas present I should be getting her - she is great and I don't want her to be short changed at all but I also don't want to create an expensive precedent or be weird by going way ott. I thought I would do a big voucher/ money gift from us and then a smaller wrapped present 'from' our son so he has a physical thing to present her with and she has something to unwrap ie wine, book, or chocs etc

So, full time nannies out there - roughly how much do you get for these presents? Either absolute or as a proportion of what you earn?

And nanny employers - how much do you give? (And do you differ between birthday and Christmas? Birthday is sooner for us)

We are based in London in case that's relevant.

Thank you so much in advance (and if there is a better place to put this thread please let me know and I'll ask for it to be moved)

I wouldn't have expected a birthday present, but it us nice to give a Christmas present or bonus. Small present from the child and voucher from your sounds perfect.

Thank you! Roughly how much did you get at Christmas if you don't mind me asking?

Hello, nanny here... My employers have always given me both a birthday and Christmas present. Generally a small gift from the children and often cash or a voucher - the value of which has varied greatly between families. It doesn't have to be a huge amount at all. Sometimes the gift is linked to my interests and that's been absolutely lovely but I think any kind of acknowledgement is gratefully received!

We do cash/voucher somewhere around £100 and a gift.

Birthdays vary , always a pressie , bubbly, smellies, chocolate etc

Thanks everyone. Good to know there isn't an obvious 'right amount' that I may accidentally get wrong! Really appreciate the replies

It always varies. I really don't expect anything either! It is my job at the end of the day. Having said that, I normally receive a voucher or cash around £50 for birthday or Christmas from most but others less, maybe bubbles, chocs etc... I really wouldn't want parents being out of pocket to get me a gift. One family used to just bake me a cake for my birthday and it was so lovely of them.

Between Xmas and birthday I usually give £400-£500 split between presents and cash.
