How do you find a nanny?

Just that really!

I am due to return to work after maternity leave in October and DD had a place at the local nursery, however, they are now going to be closed until at least Christmas so we are considering our options. We may end up sending her to another nursery if we can find one with space, however, DH and I work long hours so we are also considering the possibility of a nanny so that DD doesn’t have to be away from home all the time.

I’ve looked online but there is so much information I don’t really know where to start! Does anyone have any advice or links to good sources of information about what the different qualifications mean/how to find suitable candidates?

I realise we are fortunate to have options but I am panicking a bit as we had thought this was all sorted and are now back to square one with limited time to work out what to do.

You can use a nanny agency to help find a nanny but that can cost £2k or more.

Personally as a nanny I look for work on www.childcare.co.uk where parents can search for nannies in their local area and nannies can search for parents.
It does cost, not sure how much as pricing varies but I would look on the website under Gold Membership option once you have created a free profile.
That website has a Help & About section with information about how to recruit, how a nanny can get a DBS check (if in England) if they don't have one already, there is an example contract, details about doing payroll.

Another place I look is in local community Facebook groups.

Decide what salary you are going to offer and make that clear in any adverts/profile. Be aware of your costs of employing a nanny - there are posts on here going back many years about the costs. Main ones are: Gross Salary, Employers National Insurance, Employer pension contribution, activities and mileage budget, providing meals whilst nanny is on duty, payroll admin (unless you want to do it yourself).

Not all agencies cost that much to find a nanny

Some have fixed fees in my area , not a % of nanny salary

What area are you in ?

Do you want 3/4/5 days. What hours

You can place own ad on childcare .co.U.K. Or nanny job

Tho you need to check all applicants. Refs. First aid dbs.

Exp old nannies are nneb betec etx
