Going out of town for the weekend, Grandparents coming to watch baby

Hello,

So my son is currently 5 months old and in a few short weeks my husband and I will be attending our first trip to a wedding without out little one in tow! We will be gone a total of 3 days, and my husbands parents are coming up to watch him and while it has not hit me yet.. I'm pretty sure I am going to be a mess.

They are coming a couple days early to spend some time with him so he actually remembers them and doesn't freak out (I'm sure it will happen at one point), but my question is.. when you have someone coming to watch your little one, what do you leave for them?

Emergency contacts, hospital numbers/locations, poison control..maybe some directions on bath time? Eating? He is my first child so I am a little unsure of what I may need to leave them with as far as directions go.

Bathtime, sleeping and feeding will be picked up when they are with you before hand. Mae sure they can operate your pushchair let them do it a few times. Try the car seat in their car.
Hospital, gp information and the red book to hand where is the thermometer, calpol teething stuff? Plus all your contact details. The rest isn't needed they have had children before.

It very much depends on the Grandparents and how competent they are. Give them as much guidance as you feel they need.

Leave them with doctors no. and red book.
Contact details for someone close by who they can call in an emergency (friend or neighbour).
Make sure they can work buggy/monitor/oven/anything specific to your house etc.

The first time I left ds with his grandparents (PIL) I wrote a really detailed list of his routine- timings and order for naps, meals, feeds etc.
DH thought I was being OTT but MIL thanked me and said it was really helpful.
Better to give too much info than not enough in my opinion.

Thanks ladies!!

What is the red book? Is that the book with his vaccines?

I agree on to much info not too little. MIL much prefers it. Even though she knows the drill from spending time with us, she says she likes not having to think or worry if she's forgotten something as it's all written down. I have three sheets of notes which I've honed over the couple of years I've had DC and of course I update as they get older and needs change.

  1. Daily routine bottles, naps, meals, bath times etc I also include when nappies are likely to need to be changed but obvs that's variable!
2.Meal plan. But for you at that age it's easy as just milk.
  1. Info sheet. Name of hospital & GP (they know where they are). Quietest route to walk to the park. How to use car seat. How to fold buggy. How to work the steriliser.

Make sure you've got more than enough baby milk and ask them what food they'll want and order that in too.

And don't be a mess! Ultimately as long as your DC is fed and has a clean nappy, he will be fine and they'll muddle through everything else if they have to. Enjoy the time away. What a wonderful change for a break!

I’d do a print out of what you usually do during your day, so that they have an idea..but make it clear that you don’t expect them to stick with it.
My mum and dad was great with the kids, my MIL useless - we tried though and at least she told us when she wasn’t coping (half way through the funeral of our friends first child).

Def a routine. I left one inside kitchen door for anyone who had dd

Whether friends or older brother sister

Helps to know when nap and food is if weaned

Red book. Nurofen. Teething gel

Number and name of hotel incase phone signal crap

And yes show how buggy and car seat work

Enjoy

This is a rough schedule

Print out etc

You'll know what the red book is if you're in the UK...

Clearly I'm a bad parent as I never left anything 🤣
