Where do I find someone who could help me ?

Currently ds is in nursery full time since both me and dp work full time. However, I have been applying for new jobs recently - which may cause me a problem in the short term getting to the nursery in time to pick ds up. Ideally (and this is if I actually get the job !) I need to find someone who can pick ds up from nursery at 6pm, take him home (my home), and sit with him for about 45 mins (max). Where would I start looking for someone who may be able to help me? And what is it likely to cost me? (Nursery is either a 5 min drive or about a 20 min walk from home). Please can someone advise me ?!?

I would start by asking the staff at the nursery if any of them are looking for a little extra job - I know staff at the nursery we used to use would earn extra (£7 per hour in London but that was a couple of years ago) by taking children home or picking them up on the way in.
Otherwise you could put an ad on www.gumtree.com

Thanks for the tip. I know a couple of the staff at the nursery definitely offer a babysitting service - but that's £10 an hour. It's a good idea to ask them first - since I'd rather leave ds with someone he already knows. Don't really want to have to introduce him to someone new when he already has us and varying different nursery staff.

Also the nursery staff are more likely to be ok about a 45min job. Would guess most childcarers would be looking for more, or charge a minimum fee unless you have space for a au pair..You might find a student or similar via gumtree though.

I agree. I doubt many childminders would be able to offer that as either they would have kids being collected at their house around that time or may finish at that time/earlier.

Thanks again for the tips. Definitely don't have space for an au pair - I live in a flat ! Unless they fancy a shed in the communcal gardens - and I'm not sure health and safety would advocate that kind of offer !
Gumtree is a good idea though. Will check nursery staff first, and then gumtree. Obsiouly - I have to get the job first - so this may all come to nothing ! Fingers crossed - and thanks again for your advice.

You could also 'borrow' someone else's nanny for that odd hour, if they had finished early enough and live nearby? Unless you overlapped the care...Either way, have a look at www.thenannysharers.co.uk; you can register for free on that you do so before this Friday and quote the promo code mumsnet30 in the top left-hand page of the registration page.

Good luck!
