i got some cheap stuff recently in Poundstretchers/Instore.

Also one of the high street remainder book shops (Bookworld??) usually have cheap art supplies

If you drop some hints with parents, you might be able to get scrap paper and such like from their work places. ie, any paper they don't have to shred and that still has a blank side to draw on.

I get most stationery from discount shops & markets but also use www.craftpacks.co.uk

CharlieAndLolasMummy · 27/11/2007 10:33

you probably have a local scrapstore that sells paints etc as well VERY cheaply. Ring the council.

MaureenMLovesmincepies · 27/11/2007 11:28

PVA is expensive anyway, sadly. I'd ask your parents too, they might be able to lay their hands on some stuff for you.

This won't help you in the slightest, but I found a small branch of WHSmiths under dd's bed last week! I needed some black paper and I was sure I'd seen her with some. I found piles upon piles of pads, paper, pens, crayons, everything!

I use wilkinsons, poundland, instore.

Today in poundland I got some stuff to make angels (3) and some xmas paint stampers (6)

The pva glue i got in wilkinsons was only about £3 and has lasted a while.

I have a kitchen cupboard dedicated to craft stuff and 4 big boxes with lids full of toys in the lounge so in the eve's the house is pretty tidy. All you have to do is find somewhere for it all to live first .........

MaureenMLovesmincepies · 27/11/2007 14:43

All my craft stuff in in a plastic drawer unit in the cupboard under the stairs. All the drawers are coded, so we only have to get the ones out that we need. Is that a bit anal? It is, isn't it! All the toy boxes are coded according to age as well, so I only have to have certain boxes out on certain days. Today is misc 1 - 2 yr old day and after school we will add colouring box too. School mindees only here for under an hour, so Tuesday is colouring day. There reminds me, I must print off some more of those piccies from that website!

fruitloop79 · 27/11/2007 15:08

bloody hell Mo you should have your own tv show.........'how tidy is your art cupboard'

We have a place called Grumpy and its full of scraps, materials etc, ELC is too expensive these days even with the discount card.

I go to Wilkisnons, Poundstretcher, Pound shop, Asda at Eastlands, Manchester which is HUGE and sells lots of things.

I think I'll do Angels or Snowmen this week, I was thinking of getting a small box, covering it with cotton wool and put 'windows' on it and make it into a snow-covered house with a Santa Claus on the chimney! I might try and make a Nativity scene with the children too. We do most things for Divali, Eid and Chinese New Year so am not leaving our own Christian beliefs out.

Did some snowflake pics last week at Childminder network tots group, we cut bits out of doilies after folding them in half then quarter and then opened them up, the children painted white paint through the patterns onto black paper and put glitter on. They were really pretty.

tigersmum · 29/11/2007 15:12

Do you have a childrens centre close by. Ours sells arts and crafts stuff cheaply. I have just bought 25kgs of that very fine coloured writing sand from them at a bargain price. I bought it for me and local childminders so we can split it between us, as 25kgs is a lot. They also order stuff for us at VAT free prices, they just add it onto their own order and we give them the money.
