Can I hire a nanny or cm just for school drop off/pick up?

Clueless about the whole nanny/cm thing but I might need someone in a couple of years when ds1 starts going to junior school while ds2 will still at reception at a different one...

Does anyone know anything about this?

I'm a cm and I would do it, i'd probably charge about £10-£15 a day depending on hours hth.

Ok, that's good to know..
Is it very unusual to ask for something like this? Unfortunately, friends in our area can't help us out, relatives live too far away and I just can't physically be in 2 places at the same time

Most childminders I know offer school runs for over 5's, it's very normal i.e. collect from school at 3ish and have til up to 6/7pm. You may also want school drop off and most CM will provide breakfast if needed (and dinner in evening if needed). You also need to think about whether or not you'll need cover for school holiday's and inset days....most CM's will be happy to do this too.

when i did this as a nanny i was paid full time (ie from 8am) even though i didnt do school pick up until 3.30pm

(was there nanny befroe they started school though)

I feel it's more in the domain of a Childminder - as they will with luck already be collecting other children from the same school. I would expect there would be a minimum charge, so it will be higher than the hourly rate for full-daycare.

For a nanny to do this kind of thing, it would be tricky for most people to fit in with other work, thus you may need to pay for much longer hours (even though you don't need them). Thus why I feel a Childminder is more likely your best soluition.

For a list of childminders in your local area, contact your local Children's Information Service. For contact details, enter your town/city name or Postcode at www.childcarelink.gov.uk (if in England/Wales) or www.scottishchildcare.gov.uk (if in Scotland).

I have someone who helps out on the afterschool run a couple of days a week (we don't need mornings) and several others in my DD class do the same - they are fairly hard to come by but there are a few ex nannies/teaching assistants etc around. I found mine by advertising on Gumtree and know several others who have done the same locally. There are also some local Aupairs who cover this function. Good Luck

Is any one else likely to be in your situation -ie is it a recognised feeder for the junior school? Maybe then take it in turns with another mum to pick up, one week at one school, one the next. Or else speak to the school to se if late/early pick ups are a problem -may have after school club or similar. Local nursery school changed its hours to coincide with schools.(school drop off 9, nursery-9:15) HTH.

a friend of mine does a nanny share; the nanny picks up two children from two different schools and they are taken to one of the parent's houses to be picked up. it saves on the cost. some schools will help you link up with other mums who need to do this.

Does anyone know anyone who can do pickup and drop of everyday to little reddings? 9-3pm

Tanith · 17/11/2017 09:37

Some taxi firms offer this kind of service. It may be worth checking.

Blast from the past... I posted on this almost a decade ago - 22-Nov-2007

Sunayna if you are looking for a childminder, then contact your local Family Information Service (typically run by local or county council).

Hi I'm just wondering if anyone knows of or how I go about contacting someone who could do school pick up on drop off 4 days a week for £80 per week term time only.
From Beaumont on whalley Rd it's 10 mins down Kellet lane to Wilsons endowed primary school
I had a nervous breakdown at Christmas and tried to kill myself in my car. The Dvla have said I'm medically unfit to drive until I have undergone a medical, this could be 8 to 12 months away 😭 I do not want to change schools or disrupt my son's life anymore and I'm struggling now to keep getting him in from where we live.
