KaySamuels · 21/11/2007 07:26

Morning shosh I will add the teapot, and here is some buttery toast.

Think we will be staying in this morning with the rain. 3yr old mindee cries in the rain. Not nice when we have to walk all the school runs!

Katymac · 21/11/2007 07:52

Only 2 each....but it's DD's birthday & I have to share with her

Actually morning all - I have a dilemma
As you might know I might be opening a nursery, & I will need a manager to do the C/M stuff

Do you think someone how is not a childminder could do all the admin stuff - or do you think they would need to be at least childcare trained if not a C/Mer?

MaureenMLovesmincepies · 21/11/2007 08:14

Morning all!

I don't see why they need to be childcare trained tbh, Katy, sounds like a job for me actually. I wouldn't mind doing paper work, if I didn't have everything else to do as well.

After everyone had gone home yesterday, I posted possibly news in the Staff room. I applied for a job yesterday. If I get it, I'll start 7th January. I won't link the details, you were all in the staff room at some point yesterday!

Katymac · 21/11/2007 08:26

Aww!!Do you think it's the right job for you?

My job will only be about 10 hrs a week - so not enough for you (I don't think)

LoveMyGirls · 21/11/2007 08:26

Morning everyone

Good luck Mo!
Katy - I "think" you could just get an administrator in to do the paperwork doesnt necc. have to be a cm, could be an ex cm who also used to be an administrator (someone like me )

I think today is going to be a very long day......its wet and miserable, it's middle of the week and dp isn't going to be back until 11pm (ish) which means no adult company from 11am to 11pm

I've been advertising again and have a feeling i'm very close to getting some new business......could be me just being optomistic though!

You know what I was wondering (do any of you think this would work?) if i take some helium ballons with my business cards attached to the ribbon up to the private school do you think they would let me hand them out? Cant really do it at the normal school because there is so many parents but at the private one I could give one to everyone for about £20 but is it worth it?

LoveMyGirls · 21/11/2007 08:27

balloons

MaureenMLovesmincepies · 21/11/2007 08:28

9am - 3pm, term time only. Very good money for local, training for future in teaching. It couldn't be more perfect really! I won't get it, you never get the first one you apply for do you? Closing date is today, so I should hear in the next few days.

MamaG · 21/11/2007 08:32

Mo - don't put yourself down, I read the spec on the other thread and you sound perfect for it. With the guiding/CM/being a mum you fill the criteria they are looking for!

MaureenMLovesmincepies · 21/11/2007 09:21

Thanks MamaG, watch this space.

Of course, sods law, one of my ex-parents has decided to go back to work starting 1st December and I just know she wants to ask me to have her adorable little boy for her and she knows I'm looking for a new job! I would love to have him and you know what? he and he alone would make me stay as a CM. I'll get the job now, you see!

LMG, the balloon idea is brilliant. Is there lots of exits to the school, or could you stand strategically on a certain corner to get them all, without bothering the school. If you're not on their premises, what can they do?

LOONEYplayingachristmasTUNEy · 21/11/2007 10:04

Morning all, it's my 'no group' day so I thought I'd pop in whilst the girls are playing nicely together.

Shosh - enjoy your swim

KaySam - I know what you mean about crying in the rain, I had one like that. God knows what we're supposed to do when EYFS comes in as we're supposed to spend a third of the day outside unless the whether is actually dangerous!

Katy - Happy Birthday to DD. As for nursery, agree with others that admin wouldn't need to be CM type - the person doing admin at school isn't from a school background necessarily

Mo - but you have to do what's best for YOU and your family!!

LMGs - sounds great idea!

Thanks to those of you who posted on my thread about this lady who wanted to come a bit early today before I start with her child - I explained to her that I have to meet the child before commiting to taking them on. Then she wanted to come at 5pm last night when it was the most mental time of the day, I said no and offered for her to come after 6.30pm or another day but I wouldn't then be able to start until next Wed. Anyway, she didn't text back and I've decided I don't want her child because I have a bad feeling SOOOO, if she texts back to re-arrange a time, I'll be coming back for advice for my reply .

Changing subject.......I've got my dating scan on Friday I should be 1 day before 10 weeks according to last scan. Just hope everything is ok and if it is, I've decided to tell parents next week. It's only 2 weeks earlier and tbh, I'm in maternity clothes already so been paranoid about them noticing - especially as the jeans are the ones with a soft pouch at the front and well, if I lift I child up I have to be very careful - it's OBVIOUS they are maternity clothes if you see it!! God, I must get some more up to date stuff......this lot is 2nd hand stuff from over 5 years ago!!!

Right....I need some brekkie so off to make some marmite toast and a cuppa if anyone wants any?

LOONEYplayingachristmasTUNEy · 21/11/2007 12:04

When I tell parents.....do you really think I need to know exactly what my plans are or do you think I can say casually what I'm hoping to do but it will be more confirmed in the new year? Also, one is a dad and very quiet, suppose I just tell him the same as everyone else - just find it a little harder talking to him.

LoveMyGirls · 21/11/2007 12:07

There is only 1 car park and 1 gate I could stand outside the gate but everyone who picks up goes in a car Also theres not that many parents at the time i do pick up which i guess means i could give a balloon to each child. I'd feel very self concious and a bit pushy..........

MaureenMLovesmincepies · 21/11/2007 12:46

Go for it LMG! Why not, don't be embarrassed about it, think of the business it could generate.

I don't think anyone would expect any firm plans atm, Looney. Just give them a rough plan and tell them as soon as you have any firm plans, they are the first to know.

fruitloop79 · 21/11/2007 13:08

afternoon everybody,

LMG What a fab idea!

Mo Good luck - lucky
smiles!
Looney Any idea what you're gonna do re Maternity leave? It's just that my fiance and I want another bubba but I was a bit worried I'd lose my mindees. Do you reckon it's physically possible to have just a couple weeks off providing all goes well with preg/birth and baby? I'm not preggers yet but I have been off pill since Aug. It probably wont happen for ages but in case it happens soon I'd quite to know what to do.

shoshaliteupthetree · 21/11/2007 13:11

LMG's Go for it I think its a fab idea, is there going to be a Christmas fair there, what about standing outside on the day of it, you would catch more than the normal school people as well.

OP posts:
BoysAreLikeReindeer · 21/11/2007 13:14

Afternoon all

Out all morn kicking through leaves with mindees then home ofor lunch, and, get this, they are all asleep. Twice in one week

I'll have a quick squizz at yesterdays staff room, Mo.

have a good day y'all

KaySamuels · 21/11/2007 13:46

Thankfully our nursery run and school run were both dry - but we all needed to change our trousers this morning from stomping in the puddles! I am on my eyfs course tonight and tomorrow night, I like the sound of the outdoor play - am a firm believer in fresh air = sleep, so we are out as much as I can manage!

LT - just go with you will tell them as soon as you have plans in place, and empathise you don't want to lose any of their business. I'm sure they will appreciate you telling them early.

Mo - decisions decisions! Just see how you go with the job you are going for, at least you have two good options!

LMG - love the ballon idea!

LoveMyGirls · 21/11/2007 13:48

No idea about the xmas fair shosh, very scared, have now designed a new leaflet which im going to put up in my car, local shops, hairdressers/ salons and even gonna ask the headmaster at school if they will put it up.

really not brave enough to do the balloons plus its cold for my children to be outside while im handing them out......

LoveMyGirls · 21/11/2007 13:56

perhaps i'll do balloons in summer

SweetSnowflake · 21/11/2007 19:59

Laughing here, just had a mum ring me(her son used to go to cm i was friends with who went back into teaching and this ex cm gave my number to her in june!)
she wants care after school for her son whos 9 and to start in feb..no probs, ill do that would have taken deposit but not retainer as doesnt count in my ratios..all going fine shes arranging to pop round for visit then asks me my fee, £4 per hour for parttimers..>"£4 per hour?!!..yes £4 per hour..oh aherm cough, ill ring you back to arrange coming round.....then i get call back..hello its xxx's mum again can i just check, you did say £4 per hour, or did you say £4 for the 3 hours???..no £4 per hour, so £12 per day...cough splutter aherm ok thanks bye

she wont find anyone who'll do it much less and im fortunate at min that im not on the breadline(touchwood!), old ex cm used to do herself no favours as started at £2 per hour!!! and only ever went up to £2.75, so no wonder she was shocked, but thought ti was so funny

Katymac · 21/11/2007 20:03

I had my first Sept 08 enquiry today it seems so far away

MaureenMLovesmincepies · 21/11/2007 20:08

You never know SS, she 'may' find that you're the cheapest! what world does she live in then?

SweetSnowflake · 21/11/2007 20:16

i know!..seems funny how people prioritise the environmnt and care they will reiceive for 50p

Katymac · 21/11/2007 20:19

Can I ask?

Is your cost for F/T OOS care (8-6 incl hols) about half F/T care? - seems very high to me (I have added it up every which way and that's what it comes our to)

SweetSnowflake · 22/11/2007 12:47

was that to me katy?

if it was, my part time/before/after school fee is £4 ph, anyone who cames approx 40 hours is £3 ph..
so a 40hr child would pay £120 per week, if this particular child wanted to come, at 3 hours per day 5 days per week it would be £60, so exactly half.

Its the normal price hear and TBH, i only want so many children on regardless off them being over 8 as i dont want to 'take on more than i an handle', if i keep these spaces for over5/over 8 i will lose out on full time spaces(ofsted have changed my ratios a couple of times now so i can take on diff ages at diff times).
So i charge £1 extra if they dont want a full time space

what do you charge Katy?, although you have premises dont you? would you be classed more as a nursery(i know you're in the midst of trying to open one properly)?
