Childminders job

Afternoon ladies,

I'm currently working with a childminder as her assistant and would like to ask if this is normal as a childminder.
I work part time 4 hours each day. The childminder leaves me with the kids the period that I'm here. She may drop in to deliver a child's food but shes mainly gone doing pick up and drop off or whatever else she wishes. She's left me with all the children, their observations to do and writing them up and sorting out children's folder and teaching them etc without any planning.

Is this normal? Or should I voiced this?

Where does she go for4 hours do the parents know they are paying someone who isn't there I wouldn't be best pleased about it

I think this is against eyfs regulations. I think children can be left alone for a maximum of 2 hours. Report to ofsted.

I forgot to add, one of the children is autistic and requires extra attention.

Can you confirm in which country you are, there are different regulations depending on the location...

We're in England.
Just want to add, I'm overly exhausted and overwhelmed. Thought about walking out at one point (leaving the job, not the kids), but on the contract says 4 weeks notice. Really considering.

As an assistant you can only be left alone with the children for 2 hours maximum.

How many children are you with? Normal ratios apply ie a maximum of 6 children per adult with no more than 3 being under age 5.

This assumes you are in England.

Ring Ofsted with your concerns. They will be interested.

Lindy2 · 21/05/2021 13:11

I'd also expect the child minder to do the paperwork and observations. It's not really possible to do paperwork at the same time as looking after the children. She should be using the time you are there to do the paperwork herself.

Kitten22 · 21/05/2021 13:15

It varies.

Sometimes some kids don't come in, but in total we have 5 children ages 3 and 4. And 3 children aged 2. Having said that they don't all come in at the same day and time though.

Thanks guys, will speak to her as this is unacceptable.

Never more than 2 hours and 3 under 5. She can have more but assistants can't.
You need to talk to Ofsted
