Childminder's Christmas bonus - how much?

Hello,

Is there a going rate for the Christmas bonus? Is a week's wages enough on top of usual pay enough? Or is that a bit mingy?Don't want to seem mean as I love my CM to bits, but money is also a bit tight.

Last year I gave mixture of cash, space nk vouchers and some champs. This year think just money is better (most people want that over than little gifts) but not sure if a week's pay is enough.

Any thoughts?

Cheers

cm normally get handmade things from the children, chocs, flowers, wine
tops £20
i would not accept a gift that big (£200) dont even spend that on my own dc's

got my mum and dad a sat nav for £120 and thought that was expensive

O M G i would be gobsmacked if i got a weeks wages as a bonus

AND VERY VERY HAPPY!!!!!

what a lovely gesture

yogamama · 19/11/2007 22:45

Ha ha! Thanks for all the feedback.

Settled on pressie for her son and £300 as bonus. To be fair if you do a good job you should be rewarded for it - doesn't have to be cash, but a gesture of your appreciation (wine, chocs, etc) never did anyone any harm.

Better start saving again for next year's!!!

Yeah, but you're that old, you wouldn't remember what you got for christmas anyway, so its kinda a wasted present on you!

Hi there, im a cm and i would be very happy but most suprised to receive an extra weeks wages on top of my normal at christmas!..i got nice little presents from my mindees last year (and tbh, nothing at all for my birthday from some mindeesnot even a handmade card with scribble on)so to hear you appreciate you cm that much is lovely!

I think as youa re not rockafella, i wouldnt be givng and extra wage, what did you give her last year or was she not with you then?
If you want to give a 'big' present maybe £50 and litle pressy of children..£300/£350 is way over the top..but lovely of you..spend it on the kids instead!

MaureenMLovesmincepies · 20/11/2007 11:14

Actually, joking apart, you're quite right SS. It is awfully kind of you, but I do think if any of my parents gave me an extra weeks money, I'd be a bit embarrassed. And all of mine are part time, so in some cases it wouldn't amount to much either.

LoveMyGirls · 21/11/2007 08:16

And I felt bad asking for some pay over the hols while i'm off!

Are you paying her for time off as well as the bonus?

yogamama · 22/11/2007 20:11

Not paying for time off unfortunately - the funds don't stretch that far!
