Any CM's gone into nannying?

We should be moving in a few months all being well to a lovely new house without a playroom and I really don't want to continue childminding/working from home. I don't know anything else and do love the job and children so considering stopping childminding and restarting as a PT nanny.

Appreciate I won't be my own boss anymore but assume I will still do similar things (crafts, games, play groups, parks, woods etc) and the occasional meet up with
Mum/minder friends and their children? I'd only be looking for 2 or 3 days a week so don't mind long hours, pretty easy going, decent cook, happy to tidy up etc.

Anything I should be aware of? Anyone done this?

Nannying is much more area dependant I think, especially at the moment but if you're in a good area for nannies should be great.

Looking at local Facebook and childcare ads there are definitely more jobs starting To come up as I guess people are gradually going back in to work. Rates of pay seem decent too - I won't earn as much as when I'm full childminding but if I can move my work move out of my house I do think it will be worth the trade off (plus being an employee is quite appealing!)

Hi, I have just left childminding. I did not go into nannying as left sector all together. But just wanted to say it’s lovely to have my home back, and all the storage space now my business equipment and toys have been sold. My whole family is happier . So go for it you will love coming home to an clean empty home that’s now yours and not taken over by childminding stuff.

Forgot to add , I love being an employee now , I will get sick pay, holiday pay, pension, paid for bank holidays .

I’ve been a nanny and now a childminder. I think I would struggle going back to nannying now. I’m too used to being able to do my own thing and decide what I’m doing for myself. Some nanny employers let you get on with it, but some are far more prescriptive about what they want you to be doing with their child.

My last nanny job was for a family where the mum worked from home and I would never do that again, She used to pop down every time she heard her son cry and when she had a break/lunch and it was so disruptive. With more people working from home now and some offices saying working from home will be staying I would definitely be aware that having a parent about is far from ideal for an experienced nanny and take that in to account while job hunting.

I would find some of the parenting demands difficult....not all parents have an approach I could work with and not always ones that follow best practice or current research on childcare. Personally id look at a nursery where at least the guidence and educational side is the same.
