How far to travel?

Hi

What do you think a reasonable commute (driving time) for a nanny is? I’m trying to find someone as local as possible but haven’t had much luck so wondering whether to extend my search out a bit but not sure by how much.

Why not just advertise the job and see who applies? Seems strange to have a set area you will recruit from.

I wouldn't worry about the distance of commute for the nanny after all that would be their decision as to whether they are happy to travel the distance for the role.

Some nannies will travel further than others so open it up for further and let the nanny themselves decide if it's too far for them.

Good luck in your search

I’m proactively reaching out to candidates whose profiles I like. Last time I found three fantastic candidates this way whereas the ones who replied to my ad weren’t great to be honest.

If you're using childcare.co.uk or similar you can just extend the distance a mile at a time until you find some candidates you're happy with. You can then reach out and if they feels it's too far for them they can tell you.

If there are good candidates out there, but they're not replying to your ad, maybe take another look at your ad and see if you can find out why it's not appealing to these good candidates.

Well they can commute as far as they like for their job.Hmm

I like doing jobs within 6 miles of my home, roughly 10-15 mins drive. At the moment I am looking for work and I am limiting myself to that distance as I don't want to be travelling far. In 2005 I had a job that was 16 miles away (about 30 minutes if good traffic) which was a pain as my finish time clashed with busy traffic.

I'm in West Surrey near Berkshire border so there are places near me but would be a pain to get to at peak travel times due to traffic on the dual carriageway, M3 motorway junction and lack of alternative routes. So I would say it is more to do with the travel route than the actual distance but in terms of searching on sites like ChildcareCoUk I would set maybe a 10 mile radius unless you are very rural.

At the moment I have a 45 min, 16 mile drive commute and that's the maximum I would consider.
