Finding a nanny

My wife has just gone back to work at the end of maternity leave and so we're starting to look for childcare for our little one. Since her work are flexible around her hours, most of the time we can keep little I around but there's there's few regular times of the week that we need the support so probably a part time nanny is our best bet.

How did you find your nanny? Everywhere we've looked seems to charge fees up front before talking to anyone and whilst we're happy to pay for introductions the subscription with no guarantee of success seems daunting. Any suggestions welcome

As a nanny my last 3 jobs have come from responding to parents ads, or parents contacting me on Childcare.co.uk Some of my jobs have been 3 days per week, some one day per week, one was set hours per month but over variable days. So I find it good for part-time work. It offers a free profile but to be able to contact people you need to subscribe - cheapest via Web rather than mobile app.

You could use a nanny agency, cost can be a lot so check their fee.

Location is going to be a factor... if you are in a city then you may find it quite easy to find a part-time nanny but if you are in a village then it may be harder.

Childcare.co.uk
Nannyjob.co.uk

And ask for recommendations on local Facebook page/from friends/neighbours.

I think it comes down to how much time and effort you want to put into the search yourself vs cost.

If you have plenty of free time to search yourself and want to keep costs low then using something like childcare.co. uk will help you find local applicants.

If you don't have the time or feel like you want someone to help you to find applicants then using an agency is the way to go as it can be quite time consuming to shortlist, interview and complete the vetting checks and references.

Good luck in your search

Fees up front ?

Who have you been talking to

A nanny agency will charge you only once you have found a nanny you like and say uou will employ her

Not for any interviews

What days /hours are you looking for ?

What area ?

If split days then May be hard to find a nanny /childcare and look for a CM
