Anyone do split days/hours?

Hi,

In September my two eldest children will be at school, I'll be on Mat leave as 3rd baby due in August. I'm having six months off before going back to work. Currently my nanny works full time over 4 days. Is it possible or does any have experience of working or hiring a nanny who does a split day shift I.e early morning help with the school run, then later in the day picking up etc. I suppose during holidays it would go back to normal? Any advice gratefully received thank youSmile

I do this. I started when I had a small child myself, so it suited me to have free hours during the day. Now it suits me as I have animals to look after during the day. It is more difficult for me in the hols, but I do full days insread of either end of the sch day.
I would suggest putting an ad on childcare.co.uk. Good luck

I do this. I work 7.30-9am & then go back in at 11.30 until 6/6.30/7pm. It works for me as I get some time during the morning to get things for myself done

I start at 7.15am, finish at 9.30am.. Back again at 2.30pm and finish anytime between 5.30-8.30pm. I love it as I can see friends, shop and even nap! But I am an older nanny (mortgage paid off) who can choose to do less hours. School holidays are hard but the parents usually take time off..

Personally I don't like this type of job at all. I need to work 40+ hours a week to pay my bills - finding another job to fit in with the split shifts and being available full time in the holidays isn't easy. Commuting (time and petrol costs) four times a day wouldn't be great either.

I agree with PP.

You need a nanny with their own child, an older nanny of a young/student nanny. Pretty much anyone else is going to need more hours.

Childcare.co.uk is a good place to start or local Facebook group/word of mouth.

I do this but I am paid almost full time rate for it, it isn't affordable otherwise. Must say commuting 4x a day is not fun.

Keep your nanny you have

Or you will have to make her redundant if she doesn’t want the new hours - and prob she doesn’t as will be less money and hard to find a 930/230 job

She can do less hours for same money or do some child stuff around the house

It’s 6mths - do you really want to find new childcare
