CM CLUB - Advice please - pregnant and showing a bit........

After receiving advice on here, I'd decided to not let parents know I'm pregnant til I get to the 12 weeks and have the scan to show all is ok.

Anyway, I'm a bit today as ds went for a play date and when I collected, I mentioned in conversation that I'm expecting again (I know she won't say and I trust her) and she said 'well I didn't like to say but I was pretty sure you were'. I said I know, my tummy has popped out already and she said 'oh, it was more the totally drained and knackered look - i was the same when i was pregnant' (I do look pretty bad in the morning after pushing the double pram to school and back to car as it's when I feel pretty yuck). My db was round on Monday and had a face when he saw my tummy without my jumper covering it (he never normally notices things like this - he's a bloke) and to top it all......pre-school mindee (nearly 4) has this afternoon said 'look....you've got a baby in there' and I just said 'oh thanks X boo hoo - I know, I've eaten too many cakes!' and made a sort of joke about my big tummy. I'm far too hot playing with the kids to have a jumper cover me during the day, I just put it on for the school run and at drop off/pick up time. I'm mainly concerned about mindee going home and saying something about my tummy like she did here.

Soooo......what do I do??? Wait out the extra 4/5 weeks or mention earlier??

TIA

hey chick, i dont think mindee will say anything, its just one of those lovely things kids say, my 5 yr old mindee struggles to remember what she ate for lunch so wont remember that..id stick to your guns and wait, if it 'does' come out you have valid reason for not wanting to tell anyone too soon, its not like you are keeping it from them business wise, just want to be safe and sound first

Thanks

I suppose I worry because my ds remembers EVERYTHING and would quite happily repeat something like that!! You're right, you've reassured me now, I DO have a good reason for waiting to tell them so IF it comes out earlier, I'll just explain!

note to self.....stop worrying!!!

Now I just need to sort out what on earth I'm going to do!! Want to get an assistant for a month or 2 but when I heard about appraisals etc I was put off - the idea is it takes some of the pressure off - not add more!!!

do you have a childcre co ordinator or someone to talk too?, they could sort out/help sort out the 'legal' side of it for you?

Hey there - having same issue, I am thankful my scan is 11 days away, things are getting desperate. Lots of sitting down when they arrive and lots of baggy tshirts. I am in some maternity already actually and that's helping hide it a bit but if I wear a tshirt that is waist level you can tell. I am hoping they think I am fat but it will be a relief to tell.

I did notice a huge "growth" at about 7/8 weeks (darn bloating!) but it's stayed the same if not just a tiny bit bigger at 11 weeks if that helps?

crace · 08/11/2007 10:33

LOL Waist level, HIP level I meant. My waist isn't for viewing

Congratulations to you expectant cms! I waited till 12 weeks but 2 of my mindee parents said they had suspected something but were being polite and didn't like to say the ole 'are you pregnant or just eating too many cakes' line!!! I think parents will understand you waiting!

I'm now 22 weeks and feeling huge - second pregnancy so stomach muscles non-existent following dd 5 years ago!!

My mindees are quite excited and are fine with me doing a 'shall we sit down and watch an episode of xxx' (usually Balamory!) so I get a rest!

mumtoboywithanotherontheway · 09/11/2007 09:21

MI - I've got my old support minder but not sure she'd have a clue about this stuff. She has her husband as an assistant so it's a lot easier.

crace - good luck at your scan. I haven't got any baggy t-shirts, that's the problem. Will have to go shopping I think but it's soooo unlike me to wear anything like that, I think they'll guess anyway!

AskABusyPerson - oh, congrats to you too My dd will be 5 by the time baby is born and yes, I feel I have no muscles to hold it in and I'm only very early on! Some days are worse than others, depending how bloated I am! I'm pretty sure my nearly 4 yr old mindee will be excited, the rest are too young to understand really, especially the babies! What did you tell the parents regarding your plans? This is the bit that worries me the most!

Mum2boywaotw - I cut out most wheat products during first 15 weeks and it made such a difference to my bloated tum! I now only have wheat one meal a day and it still helps.

I'm mainly a flexible ad-hoc minder so my ad-hoc'ers will have to find alternative care for the odd days they want (eg for a set of twins I'm the third choice if both sets of grandparents busy!). For my regular mornings-only school run the cm who had the mindee from aged 5 months to just before starting school is having her back for a term (the cm doesn't normally do school runs hence me taking the mindee on but is okay to cover my mat leave) and my one 'proper' mindee (a 3-day a week mindee I've had from aged 10 months to aged 2.5 when her mum went on mat leave and it went down to one day a week but is now ad-hoc) is coming back with her new brother for 2 or 3 days a week but they will have to wait until I'm back at work - the mum is fine with this, will probably work out that her going back to work time will coincide with when I do....

Is there another cm in your area who you could suggest to your mindees parents to take their children on for your mat leave - how many mindees do you have?

AskABusyPerson · 09/11/2007 16:22

Sorry. didn't really answer your question! I told my mindee parents I was expecting, due in March, they duly excited and pleased for me, one parent (the school run one) immediately started talking about my mat leave (she's a very organised person) but the others are happy to play it by ear and see how I feel nearer the time about when to stop work.
