Child care for 4+ during holidays

Just wondering what everyone else does? Mines just turned 4 so will be starting school in September. Hopefully will be able to join a breakfast club and after school club. During holidays however not entirely sure what options are available? Do childminders take older kids? I've seen some sports clubs (pre covid) but the days are too short.

My DD’s nursery does holiday clubs that run from 7.30-6.00, something like that might be an option.

Hi yes some childminders take school age children and happy to offer holiday only care, they also offer before and after school care so you could find one that covers it all for you. I would start looking now through as spaces will be gone quickly once infant school places offers are released.

Some schools have their own holiday club also, particularly if they do their breakfast and after school club on site.

His nursery sadly don't do a holiday club sadly. Will have to try and track down a child minder from looks of things

What part of the country are you in? There are a fair few full-day activity camps - Ultimate Activity, SCL, Camp Activ etc generally do longer days (8/8.30 to 6 for an extended day.)

If you know which primary he will be attending, it could be worth calling them and asking if they know of any childminders who drop/collect from there.

Also an idea if you have a local page on your Facebook to put a post up saying you are looking for a CM who drops/collects from the school.

Many sports style ones won't take a child all day till they are 5.. Which is a right pain if your sports mad child only turns 5 the end of August so you have to cover a full year elsewhere.
I found that best option was to put into school based places.. Doesn't have to be school attend.. They seem to take younger ones all day. Alternatively other people just lied and gave wrong birth date..

Thank you some great ideas there! We're north west Preston. I'll find out what primary school he gets mid April. So will ask them about child minders/local provisions. He is absolutely sports mad, will happily spend the day running round after a ball.

Also I'd consider a childminder for wrap around care as reception children can find full time school exhausting and need a more homey environment the demands of school can be a shock to the system with less adults per child more educational expectations etc and it can be nice to come out to a friendly loving adult rather than a big hall with numerous year groups mixed together. Ours does reception to year 6.

Our after school club does 8-6 holiday club, we have a 9-5 club at local leisure centre and multiple sports based clubs which yes are more 8.30-3.30. All take reception children.
There will be something you just haven’t found yet
