Is this a reasonable expectation?

Thinking of hiring an au pair (or possibly a live out nanny) but want to check if this is a reasonable expectation for an au pair.

Get dd 3 years old ready and take her to nursery for about 9 am.
Collect her in the afternoon around 3.
Weds-fri look after dd15 mths from about 8-5 in addition to oldest dd when she is not at nursery.

Is that too much? They'd have all weekend and 8am-3pm of mon-tues to themselves.

It equals about 35ish hours per week.

How much would you pay/expect to earn each week for that?

(Ps. Wanted to say I've talked about it like a job but I understand that the idea is more that its a cultural exchnage/part of the family experience and I'd be happy with that).

They'd have their own room and shower room.

Would you also be in the house wed-fri? My understanding is that an au pair is just a helper and shouldn’t have sole responsibility - she’s a big sister not a mum iyswim.

Yeah, doing 35 hours a week solo is a lot for an au pair in my experience.

Have you considered other types of childcare? That many hours with that level of responsibility and just pocket money and a room doesnt really seem very balanced.

You'll likely either get:
A) no interest or
B) interest of a young person with no experience who accepts and then either struggles a lot of leaves.

Hope you manage to get it sorted.

Thought as much. Glad I checked.

Any idea how much you'd pay a live out nanny for this sort of thing?

Yes, it’s far too much for an au pair, they don’t generally have sole care of under 3s. There are also very few au pairs at the moment.

How much you pay for a nanny depends on where you live. I’m in bucks, nannies are around £12-£13/hour gross. You have employers NI and pension on top of that.

Yes, AP only supposed to do about 5 hours a day. Bear in mind that AFAIK there is now no visa for au pairs, in Europe at least, so I'm not sure there's a legal way of having one right now - it sounds like no one can come over here unless they're earning at least £20,000.
