I am a live out nanny (from after school collection to all day occasionally).

I have been with the family for over 2 years, never had a sick day or holiday, extremely flexible and do a very good job. I also am teaching the child English and driving her wherever is needed.

My problem? The family made it clear on interview they do not pay for holidays or sick leave, which I accepted. I was initially employed for 25 hours a week in sole charge whilst the parents were at work. They did say that I would make much more when the child was sick (she had a history of being poorly regularly following Pneumonia) or on holiday. However, she has not been sick (the one time she was mother stayed off work) and when the holidays came the mum told me a friend was caring for her (unless I could do 10 hour days at less than 4 dollars an hour). They pay me 8 dollars an hour.

Now we all understand the Corona problem. We were in lockdown for 6 months and could not work and received no pay. Unfortunately this led me to being in debt and in danger of my house being repossessed.

As they now work from home my hours are reduced to 2 hours per day and I pay a lot in petrol to travel to collect my charge. Last week they asked me to do 1 hour extra, I eagerly agreed, then the mother said I was not needed for the extra hour with only on hour's notice.

She has today informed me that I am to collect the child and drop her off for a medical appointment which means I will earn 8 dollars, but petrol will cost me 4.

I am willing to be flexible and give my all to this job. If I could find another post I would, but there is nothing around at this moment.

PLEASE advise me how to deal with this, they are aware of my financial problems but despite my loyalty and length of service seem not to care.

I’m not a nanny, nor have I employed one, but honestly I would get a new job and make sure your contract includes minimum hours and petrol costs!

Unfortunately, you've ended up with a complete bunch of piss takers. I don't know the situation in the US, but I'm sure you must be entitled to holiday and sick pay.
You should also be paid for fuel you use driving the child around. I am guessing this is a cash in hand type arrangement?
Start looking for another job. This is completely unfair and ludicrous.
