Would a nanny be interested in these hours?

I’m after someone to look after two children from 6:30 am and take them to school 5 mornings a week. Do you think someone would do that for such a short amount of time? Also how much would be reasonable to pay?

Would it be more appealing if they could have the after school hours 3-6 too (3 days a week)? Otherwise I’m happy for them to be in after school club.

As a nanny, I wouldn't go for a job with those hours. Possibly just doing the the morning hours might allow me to mix two part time jobs but the after school hours would make it very difficult to find another job that fits in between.
Would an au pair or a student who wanted a couple of hours work before going to college be an option?

It might suit someone who started another job at 10.

You'll definitely get someone. Just be careful if it's in your own home.

Viviennemary · 23/01/2021 22:22

I think it will be really difficult to get somebody to work these hours. Such an early start for a relatively short time. Still you can only try.

Respectabitch · 23/01/2021 22:24

I don't think there will be many people it suits, tbh. Maybe a student who doesn't mind getting up early and is only looking for a few hours. It's hard enough to find after-school nannies unless you focus on students and the early hours will be a bit of a turn off. But you can but try.

I would love those hours. I start work at 9:30 so would be ideal.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 23/01/2021 22:32

I used to work similair hours 6.45am - 9am then 2.45pm - 7pm term time only. I took my own baby with me so the hours suited me fine, i was free to do what i wanted with my son all day until school pick up. I did earn a higher than average hourly rate though to compensate for the hours.

Onceuponatimethen · 23/01/2021 22:32

I think it will depend where you are and how many nannies there are locally. In my area I found getting someone for a few hours very difficult

Thank you for your responses, it’s very helpful.

Honestly no wouldn’t appeal to most nannies

My get odd one that starts late

But most do 7/8/- 6/7

Possibly someone who worked in a nursery but would have to be well paid for they to get up early o your job. Then do a whole days work

Darklylookingdeeply · 25/01/2021 12:50

Just mornings aren't greatly appealing to most nannies. Not enough hours and an early start. It is possible you may find someone if you're paying a high enough hourly rate. I would add in the pm's. These sorts of positions are hard to fill, but not impossible. What would you do in the holidays?

HarrietM87 · 25/01/2021 12:52

My nanny used to start at 9 so would probably have worked for her. Probably less appealing to add the after school hours - I’d say your best bet is someone who has a full time job with a later start.

Darklylookingdeeply · 25/01/2021 13:50

There aren't many jobs that start at 9 though @HarrietM87 and with travel in between the two, it wiould probably be tricky. I can't imagine going to straight to another job would be appealing either. Day jobs are usually quite a lot of hours for nannies.

HarrietM87 · 25/01/2021 13:59

Well you might strike lucky and find someone. My nanny would have done it - she was saving for a deposit and did loads of overtime.

GoldGreen · 25/01/2021 14:03

Wrap round nannies are like hen’s teeth. We have one who works in a term time only pre-school. She drops kids off at school and picks them up. As I say you would be looking for someone that works round their main job,

Darklylookingdeeply · 25/01/2021 14:22

I would put an add on childcare.co.uk. You can be very specific on there. Put both job options down. Not sure where you are but an hourly gross rate £15+ in London or the S. E might attatract someone.

Darklylookingdeeply · 25/01/2021 14:23

*attract!

Looneytoones · 12/03/2021 08:32

I would be interested in it but that’s because I am also a student. No harm putting an ad up for it in one of the nanny sites or nanny Facebook groups. I’m also based in London so if it was close by it would be doable for most nannies as public transport is good here. I think it depends on where you are too.
