How does the childcare bubble work?

Our nanny is leaving, she looks after DS Wednesday - Friday and he goes to the childminders Monday & Tuesday.

We decided to not hire a new nanny because he loves the childminder and I'm due DS2 in May. The childminder's can take him monday - Thursday but not Friday, so MIL offered to help which is very kind. The first Friday will be 19/02.

I will look after DS1 & DS2 on Mondays & Fridays once I recovered from birth (had a section last time and took a good 4-6 weeks, hoping for a straightforward natural birth this time).

Anyway, how does it work? Can MIL come into our house, we're working from home but have very demanding jobs. Can we just drop DS at her house?

Either. A childcare bubble can be formed with one other household. The adults should limit their social interactions (during lockdown anyway) but children can move freely between the households. The childcare bubble can take place at your house, similarly to your Nanny, but you should social distance as adults. Your child can go to their grandparents house too.

@HariboBrenshnio thank you! Yes, definitely. We might just drop him off at their house as it's very big and saves them to drive + we will have no social interaction except through our DS.

I do hope the restrictions will ease with time and I can just see them once baby is born and recovered aka June.
