Sleep arrangements for 1 year old/Toddlers at CM

Hi just wondering what childminders do for naps during the day?
Do kids share cots or are sheets changed? Is there a cot for each child?
Do some CMs put them to sleep in strollers downstairs supervised?

First time mum and trying to find out what's the norm

It will differ with each mindee depending on their resources and space. I have cots and sleep mats and each child has their own bedding.

The childminders I used had children sleep in prams supervised. It was what DD was used to so was fine with me and it seemed to work to allow the cm to take the children to activities and the children that needed to nap still could

I have travel cots for naps and each child has their own bedding which is washed weekly or sooner in case of accidents etc.

Nicadooby · 13/01/2021 19:02

It’s varies depending on what the children are used to before starting at the setting. Some sleep better in travel cots, some in push chairs or even on sleep mats. If a little one falls asleep on a walk I am able to push them into the house so would leave them to finish there nap in the buggy.

Children always have fresh bedding for hygiene reasons

Maryann1975 · 13/01/2021 19:11

I’ve got 3 travel cots, although it’s very rare that I need all 3. Lots of sheets too, so would put a clean sheet on if a different child goes in it. I also put them in buggies for naps if that’s how they sleep best. So it depends on the child. Travel cot or buggy For little ones and as they get older, (To big for the cot/moved in to a bed) they nap on the sofa if they still need a nap.

StacySoloman · 13/01/2021 19:13

Depends on the child - some sleep in cots, some prefer buggies, some older toddlers sleep on the sofa.

StacySoloman · 13/01/2021 19:16

They have their own sheets & blankets in cots and on the sofa. I use buggy snuggles in the buggy, and if I have a double each child has their own side. Buggy snuggles usually go in the wash weekly.

DS2 used to sleep in the cm buggy, on cushions on the floor or on the sofa (when older), just depending on what suited/worked on the day.

Claremum20 · 14/01/2021 09:15

OK so sleeping in buggy etc is quite common it seems.
I know the kids will be supervised but is there any reason to be concerned about this... Would it affect my kids sleep at home if they nap less during thr day?

Mine slept in their own cots with their own sheets, unless parents requested a pushchair. Older children sleep on mats.

In my experience lots of children only sleep in buggies at home, so this is what parents request. I prefer children in cots if possible so I do try to get them to settle in a cot - some will, some won't.

Are you particularly keen for your baby not to sleep in a buggy? If so, just have a conversation with your CM and see if they can accommodate it.

Many children nap less well in childcare at first, whatever the sleeping arrangements - it's a new place, new people, it's busy and noisy, more exciting than home.

I always found that NOT napping had a bigger impact on night sleep, in that the baby /toddler would be overtired. DS2 is my youngest and was the only one of mine who went to a childminder (wish I'd discovered her before!). He kept his naps up the longest (occasionally still napping at age 4, but never for me!) and is still the best sleeper of my three.

All mine sleep better with me than they do at home i use what works best for individual child...travel cot, sleep mat or if they like being rocked a buggy. Once they are more used to me and settled normally its a sleep mat all have own bedding.

JellyNo15 · 23/01/2021 21:45

Mixture here as others have said. Depends what works best for each child. But I have lots of cot and park sheets washed daily. I like the buggies with a folded pram sheet too. All my buggies are lie flat ones.
