Nanny ofsted inspection- what to expect?

The heading says it all!!

I’m a nanny and due an ofsted inspection next week. I have no idea what to expect or what information I should know. To be honest I don’t know about any regulations.

I work in a very relaxed household, the parents are working from home (as are most) the children will be at school and I’m very much ‘an older sibling’ type of member of the family if that makes sense.

I have nothing in place as any information passed between the parents and myself is verbal or through text/notes. And I mainly just do drop off, pick up a little bit of homework and prepare tea.

There is nothing strict or official here if that makes sense. Even with Medicine, I usually just text the parents or let them know verbally when I see them if I’ve administered any.

Any advice and shared experiences would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Smile

On 23rd October Ofsted posted about how inspections are being done:
www.facebook.com/ChildcareRegistration/posts/1334433220235137

The inspector will want to see all your certificates, at a minimum these will be:
Public Liability Insurance
Common Core Skills & Knowledge, alternatively Level 2 or above training in childcare
Suitable First Aid certificate (if caring for children under age of 8 that means a Paediatric First Aid certificate)

You need to know the local safeguarding children procedure in the area in which you work, so for example the contact details for MASH (Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub) and how you would go about reporting a concern.

The inspector will ask various questions about child protection, such as naming the 4 main types of abuse, what you would do if you felt the home was unsafe, how uncomfortable you would be about reporting the parents. Also think about working with families with a different religion, children with disabilities, different race.

If an allegation was made against you, to whom would you report that? Hint: Ofsted have to be told about that sort of thing.
What other things do you need to tell Ofsted about - change of address for example.

More about the Requirements: www.gov.uk/guidance/childminders-and-childcare-providers-register-with-ofsted/registration-requirements#nannies

Given the PM's announcement Ofsted inspections may stop again, though maybe they will use phone/email/video conferencing.

Thanks so much nannynick. This information was so helpful. I was more worried about the questions they would ask and not really having any sort of system in place because we don’t really.

I have done safeguarding before but will need refreshing as it was many years ago when I worked at an early years setting.
I’ve not heard of MASH before but I looked up our local council procedure and it said to contact the SPA (single point of access) I believe this is similar? Would it be ok if I wrote down the contact details for this and some other notes that I had with me or would I be penalised for this?

Thank you for the links, I’d used the ofsted one on the Gov site as a guideline but wondered if anyone else had any experiences to share.
I’ve been contacted today and they are trying to fit in this week as they will be in the area so hopefully I will refresh my mind in time.

Yes, SPA would be your local authorities place to call regarding safeguarding concern. They call them different things but it is the same thing, the start of the process.

Yes write down info you get from the local authority site. Ofsted just want to know that you know whom to contact and what sort of thing you would contact them about.
