Self isolation and childcare

Hi,
My child has been asked to self isolate for 14 days from school due to numerous positive cases and I am a lone parent. I understand that I do not have to self isolate as he hasn't shown any symptoms however my only source of childcare is my mum who is in her 70s (in our support bubble). My question is, should I ask my mum to look after a self isolating child or ask work for unpaid leave/take holidays?

Surely it depends on what your mum wants to do?

If your child goes on to develop symptoms of covid and then tests positive, (which could happen), would you want your mum to have been in close contact with your son?
This is really hard for families, especially as there is no guarantee of being paid By your employer and no Government help for the majority of workers if they are in this situation.

As Maryann says the point of isolation is that potentially your child may have the virus. If she does pass it to a 70 year old its very possible she could end up being in hospital or worse.
