School holiday nanny

Hi,

Has anyone been successful in finding a nanny for school holidays only (with maybe the odd day here and there during term time)? I'm thinking it would not be worth a nanny's while unless most people pay a retainer during term time. Anyone do something similar? If so, how did you find your nanny and what does she do during term time.

Don’t know about nannies but we have a school holiday only childminder so might be worth looking at that as a more cost effective alternative

I’m a nanny . I don’t have young children but I still like time off at Christmas and Easter and sometime in a July and August. Working all of the school holidays would not appeal.
I don’t think you would find a nanny wanting to do this. Unless they had another job that was term time only. But term time only nannies usually get paid holidays in school holidays (not all of it of course).
You best bet would be a uni student or an au pair for the summer holidays.
Most people use family , holiday clubs, childminders.

We have a Nanny who works wrap round and holidays. She works in a pre-school term time. Wrap round/holiday nannies are like hen's teeth. To make it viable they will most likely need another job in the day term time (so TA, school nursery worker etc).

It’s rare

Hens teeth

But not impossible

What age are your children ? Wouid holiday club apply or too young

Lots of people are very capable of doing the job of nanny and there are many people looking for work at the moment. So I'd be looking for someone who you trust to respect a bubble situation for a decent wage during the holidays.

Thanks everyone. As I thought, it seems it would be a struggle to find someone. They are only 2 years old so not old enough for a holiday club.

You should have said they were not a school child. What about approaching local day nurseries to see if they could facilitate a holiday place?
The other option is a sharing a nanny with another family for just the holidays. Be aware that you need to pay minimum wage for your part of the share , so at least £8 to £9 per hour depending on the nannies age.
Plus your share of mileage and costs of days trips etc.

You need to try and find a nanny who works for teachers - I spent years nannying for teachers who worked at a private school and had very long holidays. My contract was only term time because of this and whilst it was enough to live on, I was always happy to do extra work for other holidays during the school holidays and top up my income as I was saving for a house deposit at the time.

Other families, not other holidays!
