Charging for an extra hour - but have I already paid?

We pay a daily rate to our CM, even though DD only goes 5 hours - because she would struggle to find anyone to take up the spare hours. No problem with that.

I need an extra hour on one day next week and CM said that is fine with prior arrangement. Now I see in the payment schedule that she has put down an extra hour charge for that time. I had assumed that as we pay the full day then we wouldn't pay for this extra hour, BUT I can see that she is working an extra hour for no extra benefit. So I don't know, should I bring it up with her or not. I know it is not a vast amount of money and don't want to disturb what is an otherwise happy situation for my daughter. - what do you all think? Does anyone else charge p/t kids for full-day, and what would you do in this situation?

i would ask her if you are already paying for a full day. it seems off that she is getting extra money all the time and yet wants to charge you for one hour.

I pay for a full day at Nursery and DD is not there for at least 2 hours of that time most days. If they charged me extra for collecting her later than usual I would complain. The same should apply to a Childminder imo. Speak to her and explain, she may have done it without thinking.

StrawberryMartini · 09/10/2007 18:51

Yep that's well cheeky in my book!

NAB3 · 09/10/2007 19:00

Cheek. You pay the whole day, she should be available the whole day. Could be a genuine mistake on her part though, so speak to her as if as such.

bloodsuckingLOONEY · 09/10/2007 19:11

Was going to say what NAB3 said. I sometimes make silly mistakes and am SOOOO embarrassed when I do. Bet she just wasn't thinking - ask her, I'd rather a parent asked me than wonder but not say

if you pay for (for eg) 8hours(her normal day) and you only use 5hours, she ahs been getting an extra 3 hours pay off you for god knows how long!
she should def NOT cahrge you any extra if you are still withing her 'normal day' that you already pay for..maybe she is getting mixed up?, i have done similar, but realsied in time..i would just say to her there seems to be a mistake as you already pay for x, but never use them, why are you being charged more even though its still within that time!..BTW, i think it is HER prob not yours if you only need 5 hours, she could have said no, and unless you regulary use more than the 5 i would not be paying her for these!

I think that it depends when the extra hour is that matters. If it is within the normal working day of 8 hours that you already pay for then she should not charge you. However if for example the normal day starts at 8am and you are asking for an extra hour before this eg between 7am and 8am then I can understand why she might think this warrants an extra charge. However if you are already paying for more than you have on a daily basis i would have thought that she could let you off on a goodwill basis.

Hope this helps
