I am sure there are a few short term payroll companies? Can anyone tell me the names and how much they cost and how it works please?

Zest Payroll. £15-£30 per month depending on how short and if pension admin is needed. There is also a £15 fee for ending the payroll.

NannyPaye. They do a 6 month minimum but you can roll over unused months to another year. So could do a couple of months this year and a couple next year. I think it is £90. Will be more if pension is needed.

What is it that you are actually needing? Are you looking at having a nanny for say 10 weeks, then not having a nanny again, or are you looking for a nanny for a shorter/longer period, then having a gap of many months, then having another nanny?

Nannypaye - Call them to discuss your requirements for short term payroll. 01737 816 320 I'm not sure you can signup online for that service. Not certain they still provide it but I suspect they might if you call and ask.

Thanks @nannynick
I am the nanny. I'm looking at doing some temp holiday/ weekend nannying but don't want the faff of becoming self employed. So was hoping there may be an easier way.

So the time periods will be different for each bit of work. You may find that for some jobs one works out cheaper than another. Maybe you just want to have one payroll provider who you suggest to parents, then up to the parents if they use them or go with someone else. All providers can do short term payroll, it's just a matter of what fee they would charge for it.

The individual parents you work for are going to have to each register as employers though, THAT is a complete faff. They’d also have to get PIL. Very few people would want to do that for occasional nannying.

It would be far easier for you to register as self-employed. Honestly the tax returns are incredibly simple to fill in and you can claim for things like first aid courses, advertising etc.

Alternatively, you could work through a large nanny agency, I think tinies for example have a system, where you’re employed through them for ad hoc work.
