Do you think its dishonest of a live-out nanny..

who brings her weekly laundry to the employers home and washing her clothes without asking if this is okay. I only discovered it quite by accident when I discovered a sock of hers in the washing machine. I know it wasn't done with the kids wash because the children's wash was just done the other day and there was nothing which needed washing...

i used to be a live out nanny and i only took my washing with permission.Its only good manners

This is rude imo and technically a theft of your electricity/wash powder/water.

i wouldn't be too upset with it, if she asked though - as long as within reason. (maybe 2 or 3 loads a week - presumably using your stuff?)

I'm a live out nanny (off sick today ),and i occasionaly take my washing to work with me. I work odd hours so it's sometimes tricky to fit my own jobs in? My boss has no problem with me doing this, but i have to agree she should have asked you first

Yes. But if I had a live-out nanny and she asked to do this, I would be heppy to let her.

My employers offered to let me do this when my machine broke and another employer let me when I had machine problems. You ask first. Good manners!

as a daily nanny.... no way would i do it.... unless maybe i had a problem with my washing machine at home and would then ask (I know my bosses wouldnt mind)
(i expect when i have my kitchen 'done' in the near future, i will be without a washing machine for a week or 2 so will probably do a load or 2 at work)

also when proxy parenting i stick in my clothes with the childrens and although i dont ask i know my bosses dont have a problem with it.

Just checking that you are SURE she does all her washing at yours? just cause there have been times for example when i have come in off the trampoline with soaking socks and my socks have gone in the machine along with whatever load i was putting on.

Also when i go swimming with the chidlren i always put in my towel and costume etc with the childrens swimming stuff

Unfortunatley, I know definatively she has done this on a number of occasions. Its disappointing because I feel its an issue of honesty. I would agree with all of you that if she asked for permission first, whatever the reason may be I would be happy to let her. But the fact she has repeatedly done this without asking and hides it is telling of her character. My concern is more about whatelse she is doing behind my back. I would have prefered she makes a mistake, admits to it then at least you can correct it and move on, but how do you address someone's deceitful act? This is not the first time I have caught her in a "lie" either. In my heart of hearts I don't think I would be able to trust her, especially with my kids.

well I think it is bit bad manners but I think you are blowing it out of proportion.
when at work, have you ever used the photocopier for something personal? used the internet or phone for personal use? taken a pen home? or an envelope?
if you did all or any of these things, then are you deceitful, dishonest or untrustworthy?
if you think she is doing these things, then if you don't mind (do you mind her doing them?) then tell her she can. or tell her you woul drather she didn't.
honestly, in the scheme of things, this is a very small issue compared to looking after yur children. is she doing that well?

Minorly cheeky, I'd say. I wouldn't get too het up about it, personally. Maybe ask her to ask you for next time/not to do it, if it bothers you.
