Government 30 hr free Childcare

Just wondering if anyone uses the Government 30 hour free childcare funding for 3 year olds (in England) towards paying for a Nanny?

I have seen on .gov that a registered Nanny is listed an approved childcare provider for this purpose, but can't really find out much more info apart from that.

Does anyone do this currently? How does it work? Any pros or cons?

Many thanks

No. The 15 hours early years education funding and the additional 15 hours of childcare funding cannot be used to pay a nanny, even if that nanny is registered with the childcare regulator.

I have seen on .gov that a registered Nanny is listed an approved childcare provider for this purpose.
Do you have a link as that would need to be flagged to get corrected.
GovUk is pretty good at getting things worded well but sometimes they need a little kick to rejig things if people are getting the wrong impression from what they have written.

www.ChildcareChoices.gov.uk is your better source for information about this than GovUk. It's more basic but it lists out each type of funding and the types of providers.

Thanks @nannynick for that info and for the link - hasn't seen that website before

No, it definitely can't be used for a nanny, as the way nannies are paid is completely different to a childminder/nursery, where you pay on a per child basis to a business. A nanny is a salaried employee.

You can, however, use childcare vouchers or Tax Free Childcare towards a nanny's salary, but only if she is Ofsted registered (I used to do this with vouchers).
