CM Club - What's the rules regarding trampolines

Hi

We've just got a trampoline for the garden, just wondering what the rules are regarding childminding. I know I have to do a policy, I was going to do permission forms and risk assessment as well. Is there anything else, do I have to inform Ofsted that I have one now?

The majority of the mindee's are too small to go on it but I have a 12yr and maybe a 7 yr afterschoolie who may use this.

I was wondering this as well. My DDs have a trampoline but they don't want mindees to use (fully understand why and agree), however are ofsted gonna be happy if I don't have policy, risk assessment and permission forms in place although the mindees aren't using it?

Or do I need a policy stating that miondees aren't to use it

I;ve been panicking about this since getting this thing at the weekend. Just phoned Ofsted and was rather helpful for a change.

You have to write to Ofsted informing them about the trampoline as it could be a potential hazard. I did say mindees were too young and there only maybe a possiblity of older mindee using it but said I still have to write to them as it is on the premises. She said to put in the letter what safety procedures you have in place ie enclosure, never leaving the children unattended etc

So paperwork....could kill grandad for buying dd this

She did mention as well if I didn't tell them and on my next inspection a inspector saw it, it would go now as a negative on my report!!

Great, yet more paperwork, but thanks for clearing that up.

hennipenni · 25/09/2007 11:25

Do we write to the new address? I.E the one in Manchester?

Saz73 · 25/09/2007 11:30

Not sure where you would write to, i'm in the south east so i have to send it to bristol.

Sorry, it is Manchester here, I got transfered through to them last time I queried something with them. I had forgotten that.

ive had a trampoline for years, way before i started childminding. i broke my ankle on teh trampoline 2 years ago so dont want the mindees using it for obvious reasons!
therefore i have fenced off the top part of my garden where the trampoline and swimming pool is so that the mindees can not get to them.makes me feel alot happier and the mindees know that area of my garden is for me and my ds's.
i do have a very large garden so fencing off may not be possible for you if your garden isnt large enough but something along them lines iykwim!

Saz73 · 25/09/2007 11:36

It amazes me that you have to notify them of a trampoline but if you wanted to get a dog is optional to notify them or not.

smeeinit..you have a swimming pool!!!

Shoshable · 25/09/2007 13:00

We have one and you are covered insurance by NCMA but dont think you are with Morton.

YOU HAVE TO HAVE A NET

We have permission forms and safety policy, and I have a rule that they are only allowed t land on bottoms or feet, and high jinks and they are banned for a week!

ofsted will either lurve you for offering such exciting excersize for LO's or hate you cos you arn't a qulified life guard..and im very very jealous!

nannynick · 25/09/2007 18:41

As a nanny, when working for a family where the parents owned a climbing frame/trampoline, my insurer advised me that I obtain written permission from the child's parent, giving permission for the child to use the equipment. Plus that manufacturers' guidelines must be
followed.

Luckily in my current job we don't have either a climbing frame or a trampoline.
