short term live in or out nanny over xmas

Our nanny wants to go back home (southern hemisphere) for xmas, and unfortunately (despite my nagging ) has left booking the flights sufficiently late that she effectively needs to go for a month (works out at 18 days leave). Which means that she needs to take some leave without pay (fine), but also that we have a bit of a childcare conundrum over xmas. realistically, what are my chances of getting someone to live in/out for that month (and I mean someone that I'm comfortable, rather than someone because I'm desperate). any idea where best to look?

gumtree. lots of nannies who are not needed over the xmas hols and also nursery teachers looking for extra work over the holidays.....

If you look on Ggumtree, there always seem to be people advertising short-term care over the holidays. They are often teachers from other countries who aren't going home from the holidays. I guess there's nothing to stop you from putting in your own ad requesting care rather than wait for someone to advertise. People offering nanny services might like to get it sorted early and it gives you a chance to get to know the person beforehand. Gumtree probably works best if you are London-based but there are local sites for different areas of the country.

do you mean just for most of december

or including Christmas day and boxing day etc itself?

I always have from about Xmas eve -> 2nd Jan off, and i wouldnt have it any other way and NO WAY would i work then as its one of the few times in the year that i get to see MY OWN family!

Could you team up with some of the other parents in your child/childrens school and do a nanny share over the holidays?

legalalien · 24/09/2007 11:52

have just posted the ad - happy for people to take the properly Xmas, Xmas bit of, really the second to last week of December, and the first couple of weeks of Jan (particularly the second week)- I wouldn't expect our nanny generally to work between Xmas and New Year (in fact, the way the days work out this year, I think a lot of people will be off on leave from the 21st!
