Good evening.
Dear childminders I need your wisdom please and advise.
So I understand were in some uncertainty with all of this unclear government steps but need some thoughts on situation which I believe might touch others too.
So our childminder closed due to Covid 19. Me and my partner are furlough employees and we work in hospitality which is unclear when will reopen. Presumably July. At the moment we've agreed there are no fees to childminder in this unprecedented time, after a mutual discussion; just a small retainer fee - sort of like a deposit.
If settling is to reopen June 1st for childminders and we are not back to work, and if our pays drop to 60% from 80% would you ask for a full pay as per contract as childmindera settling is open ? I mean I'm completely confused what is a right thing to do. We can't physically afford to pay childminder especially if our pay is cut even more. Barely to pay rent. Would that mean I need to terminate contract as for another month or so I don't need her service. But then as per contract it says 4 weeks in advance, so I still need to pay? We love our childminder but if asked for a full pay it leaves us in a situation - rice on a table. I want to be fair. Any thoughts ?
As you can tell I can not get me head around anymore.
Thank you ladies

I think you will need to speak to her, and come to some sort of compromise as she can’t keep your space on hold For the foreseeable and not earn. Once we are open all contracts will be valid again so yes that can include paying for a space as she is open, but I can see why you feel this is un fair or that you can not afford to.

The only advice anyone can give you is to speak to your childminder. As pp states all contracts would technically go live again from the 1st June but obviously not everyone will be back at work I think most childminders will be looking at each family individually.

I would speak to her but it sounds like you need to give notice and if you do it today that would only be 1 week pay and you might be able to come t sort sort of agreement/comprehensive mile or off set the retainer or use a deposit you paid.

I'm a childminder and haven't charged (or been paid) anything since I was forced to closed on 21st March so from 1st June I will be charging everyone except children in Yrs2-5. If people aren't ready to come back or don't need me that's fine but as per my contract they will still need to pay me or terminate their contract with 4 weeks notice. I've been very patient and sympathetic these past 2 months but absolutely skint whilst all my families are still being paid so I need to act with my head not heart.

I'm a childminder.

I'm messaging parents this week to see who is coming back. I'm lucky that I have a very long waiting list of people who are desperate for a space asap so if people need to leave they can with minimal fuss and cost.

Talk to your childminder....there are no rules for this it's a case of everyone being fair. I'd also work out what you could afford if she does need something so your in a position to make an offer if you feel you want to stay.
