i hope this is okay to post in this area..wasn't sure where else to post it.

i don't know who would do this, since we don't have any local friends or family who could help out, maybe someone here can help us with a suggestion?

i work 2-6pm, my son has to be picked up at nursery at 6pm (they dont allow children to stay later, i wouldnt be there til 6.30pm to pick him up) - my husband has taken 2 weeks on his jobs early shift to pick our son up on time, but he can only do that for 2 weeks. so that gives me two weeks to sort some other arrangement out.

i dont know what my options are, i'm not too widely versed in what childminders do (as i've never used one or known anyone personally who has.) but it seems a stretch to ask someone to pick up my son (even at 5.30pm and keep him til i could get him at 6.30pm..) or maybe it's not?
(he wouldnt need dinner, just a snack maybe after nursery.)

hope this makes sense...(have been up for more hours than i'd like to count..) just thought asking here would be a good place to start.... thanks!

You might find a childminder to do it - but you might have to pay a minimum charge

Try advertising for a mothers help (at a Post office or local shop) - do think about references for them tho'

have you talked to teh nursery about it? someone there might do it for a few extra quid.

nappyaddict · 17/09/2007 08:45

i would ask someone at the nursery to do it.

americantrish · 17/09/2007 08:49

would i go to the nursery manager about it? (sorry if i seem thick about all this!)

i would go to the nursery manager. they may even make an exception and say they'll stay open til 6:30.

Katymac · 17/09/2007 08:59

Or they might have a memeber of staff who could drop her home & stay with her til you get home?

americantrish · 17/09/2007 09:09

:nods: i'll talk to her today when i drop my son off....at earliest i could probably pick him up at 6.15

My sons nursery are officially open till 6 - but he can stay till 6.30 for an extra (extortionate amount !) However, upon talking to the staff at the nursery found out that one of his carers lives 5 mins walk away fromt the nursery, and often takes one or two of the children home with her till 7pm when the parents can pick them up. She charges alot less than the nursery does, and my ds already knows the lady - so I have no continuity issues. Also, she has the necessary qualifications, has been police checked etc. I've since found out that atleast 5 of the staff in his nursery offer this kind of service (as well as babysitting) - but they don't necessarily advertise it. My suggestion would be, when you drop him off in the morning, ask one of his carers if they know of any good childminders, or babysitters - and one of them will probably be able to help you.

And bear in mind that it is possible you might get delayed occasionally - transport, weather - whatever, so you need to have a bit of slack in the system.

thanks imagine and seeker too for your advice!
