Would you hire a Aupair for the summer months?

A friend is interested in working as an aupair next year.

She would like to spend summer 2008 in the London area and then go to Spain until May/June 2009.

Those of you with Aupairs, is there a market for summer aupairs? Would she find it easy to get a job?

Yes there is a big market for summer Au-pairs for people with older children who need help in the school holidays :-)

We had an aupair for 3 months over the summer last year. It all went swimmingly and I would do it again.

Get her to advertise on Gumtree nearer the time.

Thanks for your reply.

When she should she advertise then? Do people start looking months in advance for next summer?

try www.aupairworld.net.
huge German AP database, very good.

It is up to her how early she advertises. Too early, and you risk being let down by the other party. Too late, and you may not get a job.
There are loads of students advertising for summer, if she could stay until November or so, or start earlier, she might increase her chances of getting offered a job. Finding an AP in Sept/Oct is very difficult.

Definately a market. I'd start advertising around March/April.

We'll probably be looking for an au pair for next summer hols and I guesss there are quite a few families like us who have kids in school clubs during termtime, take our hols to cover the other school hols but need help during the long break.

This year we recruited a 20yr old UK student to nanny for us from early July - I started looking in May..so I recommend your friend starts advertising about then I also recommend gumtree,

If she would be interested in au pairing in a village within commuting distance of London rather than London itself then we might be interested!

Yes there's a clear market and lots of agencies work on the basis of having two seasons - one season covering September to July, the second covering the summer months.

Yes, there's definitely a market for that - I know lots of people who have summer au pairs.

Many thanks for your replies, I will let her know to start advertising in the spring.

I think she want to be in London itself, she is a townie at heart
