Thinking of becoming a CM

I have passed my course last year (Level 2 CACHE Children and Young People Workforce cert, along with Paediatric First Aid level 3). I gained my classroom experience during the course in nursery at a local school for 9 months. Since October 2019, I have been working as a supply worker - Nursery Nurse in private nurseries and a Teaching assistant in year 1 to gain more experience. I am also a mum of 3, age 7, 11 and 15.

I do hope I have gained enough experience to become a CM as being a level 2?.

Thanks

In England, I believe it is still the case that if caring for young children (under 8's) you need to do a course that has covered EYFS.

There is information including a video about training on this site: childmindinguk.com/becoming-a-childminder

Useful information here if you are in England:

I'm pretty sure you need a level 3 the online cache level 3 in home based childcare

Sorry this course does not cover you, you will need to speak to your local early years team and they will advise you want courses they accept etc, you will also need to do a safeguarding course which is usually face to face classroom based.

Make sure it’s an accredited qualification not a certificate or diploma. There’s a huge difference

In Scotland you don't need anything. Well you didn't when I registered. I had some first aid and nursery experience. A year at college doing "early education and childcare" , but I don't think it's mandatory.

Hi there... Sorry it took me ages to get back to this message.

I've done an extensive safeguarding within my course and this course is a Cache one. I did 9 months.

How do I contact my early years team? As I'm interested doing cm for children under the age of 5.

Nannynick - thanks, I'll have a look at the links now

Thanks

Early Years team is at your local authority. Have a look on County council website, or borough council website. If you can't find it, then look for Family Information Service and contact them, also based at local authority.
