If grandparents/ a shielded person provide childcare normally...

I'm wondering how on earth I'm going to go back to work when lockdown ends, normally my childcare would be my mum, who is still very sprightly, but has underlying health conditions and lives with my dad, who also shouldn't be exposed to the virus.
Assuming lockdown will end and we'll all be expected back at work before the shielded group are back in circulation, I guess I need to make other plans.
Anyone else in the same situation, what are you doing?

I guess you will have to look for childcare get a list and ring around

Same situation here. Luckily I don't need childcare until Sept now due to various circumstances. I do worry about then though if shielding is still in place.

Same as are most people I know. And the demand for childcare will increase significantly , half the playground at pick up is grandparents. Think I will be a big problem but it’s hard to plan ahead with so many unknowns .

It's going to be an issue for numerous people. I'm due back from maternity leave shortly and can no longer use my planned childcare. Not sure what I will do, and no nurseries etc are open at the moment anyway. So I have decided that I am not going to worry about it for now!

Nannies are still working

Obv more costly then free gp care or cm/nurseries

Also depends on age of child. Will they be at school or nursery or at home baby toddler

You can still contact childminders and nurseries, they are still open as they are key workers caring for key workers children and can talk to you and do virtual meetings to show you their settings

I think you need to find a local list of childminders / nurseries and ring round to see if they have spaces. It might also be the case of seeing if you can put together some sort of network of parents where you each look after 2 or 3 children for a day so you manage it between you (subject of course to lockdown provisions being lifted). Can you re-arrange work patterns / shifts between yourself and your H so you need less childcare overall?

Nurseries will re-open when schools do though many are still open for key worker children. Ring round and make enquiries asap as the demand will be high. Yes its expensive, but paying for childcare for 3/6/12/18 months or whatever is less costly overall than giving up your job and having to start again later down the line. My in laws used to have the youngest but I've hired a nanny since march as a key worker so no working from home for both me and DH. childcare bill has gone from £0 to £1400 a month but it's worth it to keep my job, my pension contributions, security etc.

Childminders are now open
