Nannies (or nanny employers can answer) are you still working for non key workers?

I'm interested to see how many nannies are still going in to work at the moment to non key workers?

We’re out of our 14 day isolation and we’re struggling to work and take care of a baby and 3 year old. But our nanny is in her 60s and her husband is in his 70s so not at all comfortable with the risk for her family. We'll pay her as normal for however long it lasts and hope we can claim the 80%.

Ours has not been coming but I think she is going to move in with us for a while and we'll see how we all get on. It's that or cut our hours and she seems keen to come and play here rather than stay at home.

@bjonesreborn if you are on furlough you can’t work for the family or do activities

here

I have many friends who are still working and not all key workers

The family won’t furlough as hmrc hasn’t confirmed nanny employers will def get the 80%. Tho should as nanny’s are paye

If they don’t work they don’t get paid and won’t be getting the 80%

I’m still working. I’m a Maternity nurse - been with the family Few weeks before this Happened

Mum hasn’t been out since birth

Both are key workers

I’m self employed as a mn (was a nanny for 20yrs)

And tbh if I don’t work I get 80% of net profits over past 3yrs - which isn’t a lot

Where as employed get 80% gross salary

And Pic that didn’t attach

Thanks blondes but I am still on full pay. I know I am very lucky. But I am doing 4 hours a day 5 days a week with them over Skype. And normally I do 3 x 12 hour days so although I am doing less hours they are still getting a Significant amount of help.

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/03/2020 19:51

Ah cool. No probs :)

We had a lot of debate about this with our nanny - she lives on her own and can walk to work, and wants to work to avoid getting lonely. We also would love her to keep coming in as I am tearing my hair out trying to combine MA studies with a boisterous toddler and 10 month old baby. DH is full on wfh.
However, neither of us are key workers and we want to keep everyone as safe as possible. The government wording is definitely open to interpretation so it’s hard. In the end we decided (our nanny included) that she would not come in, just because if one of us did get a bad dose - whether that’s us or our nanny - it would be a massive regret that we just didn’t keep things as safe as possible. We want to look back at this crazy time and say that we did the right thing...

Nanny still on full pay and we agreed she wouldnt come in since last monday. My nannys actually not happy about this but agreed.

Now I myself have been asked to take a temporary pay cut on same hours, and DH will be asked to do reduced pay AND time. So as if wfh is not tricky enough we will be significantly worse off in next few months.

If we dont know for sure about reclaiming from hmrc by end of April (I know it should be possible but who knows eh) we definitely have to let her go.

ChainsawBear · 03/04/2020 16:13

We agreed that our nanny would stay at home on full pay during the initial three weeks of lockdown. As it happens I became symptomatic with what I'm fairly sure is CV during that time so as part of it we are also observing our 14 days SI. If my nanny did not want to return, we would do our best to maintain her on full pay if we could, but in fact she really wants to, so I hope we will see her again in a few weeks. She is not vulnerable and does not live with anyone vulnerable, and we will drive her back and forth so she doesn't have to take public transport.

Excited101 · 03/04/2020 21:28

I’m still in every day, non key workers. I’d much prefer furlough.

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/04/2020 23:08

@Excited101 have you suggested it to them

Or they really do need you so they can work

Excited101 · 03/04/2020 23:10

I haven’t directly asked outright, I’ve really wanted them to suggest it as I feel such a loyalty to them to do a good job. They say they’d need to take unpaid leave if I wasn’t going in.
