I used to be a childminder and switched over to nannying when my youngest started senior school. One of the big reasons I gave up childminding is because I couldn't stand the stress of late payments, chasing for monies owed, parents resisting to pay when they didn't send their choir etc etc. Now with this current pandemic, I can see from looking through the Mumsnet boards that lots of you are, and I can understand the stress, but lots of parents quibbling over payment if they are forced to close. What is it about Childminder's that makes people think they don't rely on their income just like you do? Why would their business charge half fee's if forced to close?
If your boss has sent you home on full pay as per advice by government would you expect to receive half fees?
I'm sorry, but if you use a childminder and they've been forced to close by the government please don't put them in the awkward and difficult position of querying payment.
If you can't afford it anymore, give notice but don't make it anymore difficult then it needs to be by quibbling over payment!! Have the same respect for them as you expect from your boss!! Rant over....

I think parents need to view it as paying to keep their place. Even if they just paid 50% as a retainer.

If parents aren't happy they can serve notice. Then when they begin needing one again they can go through the whole process of finding a CM.

But again, would the average person accept 50% of their salary if they had no choice to go home? It's not right, I get it that some won't be able to work without the childminder,in which case give notice. I've got a ton of childminder friends who are having this conversation daily with their minded children's parents who are getting very angry at having to pay. You are paying for a child's space and therefor if you require it to be exactly the same when they can re open, keep paying!! Same as your boss's will have to do if they want to keep you!!
