A neighbour has asked me if I would mind picking DC up from school (I dont do the school run myslef as DC are too young) a few days a week, giving dinner and looking after him until they get home. She is going to pay me. How should I charge?

If it's for more than 2 hours you will need to register as a childminder

Yes I second katymac, if you are going to be looking after this child in your own home for more than 2 hours at a time for reward, it is illegal unless you register. Not telling you this to be a pain, but to avoid you and your neighbour getting into trouble.

You could look after them in her house - no problem

Thanks Katymac...that was going to be my next question. As they live right next door then that wouldn't really be a problem. I could spend osme time in their house and then some in my own and still be within the law.

If i were to register as a childminder it just wouldn't be worth it for the small amount of money I'd be getting. Surely with the cost of registering, doing the courses and paying for CRB checks it would take me half a year to start earning!

You shouldn't pay for any of that - it's normally all free (just your NCMA Membership - which includes your insurance about £50 - I think??)
