Well done see there are some nice ones they are just usually full up which is why you dont get to meet them!!! Good luck with everything and its nice to hear positive comments for Cm s

Shoshable · 07/09/2007 13:38

£50.00 per day Christ where do you live !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I charge hourly at 3.25 most is 29.50 at day . Am in dorset.

EffiePerine · 07/09/2007 13:40

I pay £41 which I don't think is extortionate. Nurseries around here are at least £50. If you work out the hourly rate it isn't that much

Yurtgirl · 07/09/2007 13:43

hourly rate in eg sheffield is £6-7 whilst here in South Wales its only £3-4 so it can vary enormously

I'm Berkshire (Reading) and I charge £3.80 an hour but people at the other end of town charge about £3.25/£3.50 an hour. Must say, £50 sounds a lot but suppose it depends where you are.

hennipenni · 07/09/2007 14:35

Blimey, I only charge £2.65/hour, time for another fee rise to bring myself into line I think.

sheepgirl · 07/09/2007 15:42

I live in north London. Most of the childminders charge £5 an hour around my area. It's just a bit gutting as my original CM charged £155 for the whole week. So a massive budget shift for me and my dh!

yes, this is right for London, it works out cheaper to have a nanny if you have more than one child, rather than use a childminder.

a nanny share would work out about the same and nanny would have fewer children than childminder.

childminders in my part of london easily earn £200 a day!

sheepgirl · 07/09/2007 20:35

that is good to know. Anyway I will probably go with the more expensive area as I have since had very good feedback about this CM from a friend. There was me stressing that I would not have this all sorted out before work in 6 wks time

£50 a day? £250 a week? and £1000 a month? And they wonder why women can't afford to go back to work.

Thats scandalous.

I pay my cm £3.50 which is expensive in my area but she then provides breakfast, milk, dinner and tea!

sheepgirl · 07/09/2007 20:52

What is your area panicpants? (cool name). My CM provides all meals and snacks (which are all homemade and organic). She also pays for all trips and toddler groups.

sheepgirl · 07/09/2007 20:54

Panicpants I do agree with you re: the expense..you have to really weigh up whether it is financially worth returning to work! I am hoping the tax break will help somewhat

I think I might have to move the only thing parents provide is nappies every thing is all inclusive of the £3.25ph I charge which includes soft play toddler group and swimming everyweek.

lololola · 07/09/2007 21:02

hi ladies, im a c/m in the surrey area and charge £3.50 ph full time (5 days a week, 10 hours a day) which works out at £175 pw. i charge £4.oo ph part time. this is an all inclusive fee. i know im biased but i do think a young child is better off with a c/m. its much more of a nutural, nurturing enviroment. i run a playgroup once a week, visit the library, take the children on bus rides. i love my job, and if you find a good c/m, keep her! c/m in my area are very busy, and yes, some do earn over £200 per day.

PanicPants · 07/09/2007 21:03

I live in Wiltshire. And my cm is lovely, but if she was any dearer I'd have to give up work. As it is I can't afford for her to have ds full time, so my Mum has him just one day a week as my parents are fairly elderly.

And dp and I are not in poorly paid jobs either.

PanicPants · 07/09/2007 21:04

Oh and I provide nappies.

Oh, you in Reading then?

smeeinit · 09/09/2007 09:43

£50 per day for your area seems a little high but not unreasonable.
i charge £4.25 an hour which works out £44 per day for the full timers.
i live in a very affluent area therefore if i didnt charge £4.25 per hour i would have to move!

sheepgirl · 09/09/2007 21:23

smeeinit what are are you in? I was told £5 an hour was the going rate for NW london???

And the 50 pounds a day does not include nappies or food, parents have to provide both.

smeeinit · 10/09/2007 11:45

im in St Albans sheepgirl.
i dont provide nappies, wipes etc but do if needed provide food.
i think if you are happy and relaxed with this cm then its worth £50 per day. the most important thing as you say is that you will ahve no more stressing about your child.
