How did you find yours?

Hi, am considering either a nanny share with a family member whose child is 4mos older than mine, or ideally a part time nanny who can do 1-7pm every week day. The nanny share would be 8-6, but for various reasons this appeals less.

How did you find your nanny? Do you think 1-7 (well or even 12/1-8 would work) is realistic?
Thanks!

I think 1-7 could be possible - it's still 30 hours a week. A lot of nannies like long hours (50+) or short hours that allow them to see their own children (that is the case for my nanny - who finishes early two days per week). But your hours might suit someone (who wants to study / or sleep in) . I advertised on childcare.co.uk and had s range of candidates.

Thanks, I’ll check it out. Just a bit concerned about inviting some random off the internet into our home....

Word of mouth is usually best.

We found ours via childcare.co.uk too. We messaged via there a few times asking questions etc. Then asked those wee were interested in to send their CV via email (we set up a separate email address for this) then picked out those we wanted to meet in person and had first interview in a cafe without the children. We picked two from those we met to come to the house and spend a couple of hours meeting the children and animals (we advertised for horse/dog friendly as a must and liking other farmy animals as a bonus!) to see how they got on.
We have an unusual set up and didn't want people applying based on who we were and where we lived so we're purposely vague until meeting them for the first time.

@MyBootsAreMuddy, that sounds very thorough! Were you happy with the outcome? Was it your first time finding someone?

Very happy with outcome the one we offered job to is still with us 9 years later! Although her role has evolved somewhat in that time, we are all happy and she realy has become part of our family.
It was out second time looking for a nanny. First time has been via an agency but was a disaster as we had candidates apply who did so purely as they wanted the 'status' thing. We ditched the agency and web it alone.
Although we do have friends who have sucsesfully used agency's to find great nannies.
