UK to close door to non-English speakers and unskilled workers

Currently planning to have 1 child. Would childcare costs increase after brexit due to government policy on immigration. How many of you have EU workers looking after your child (whether as au pair, nursery worker, childminder)? I read that 5% of childcare workers are EU nationals (similar to NHS).

Childcare increases all the time anyway. If you can’t afford a 5% increase you can’t afford it.

But no, to answer your qu, none of the nursery workers / out of school club staff who look after my children are or have been (to the best of my knowledge) non-UK EU nationals. Although my little boys teacher is Italian!

Good to know. My childcare costs would be £1600 per month so a 5% increase is 80 quid?

Which isn't too bad!

Remember to use tax free childcare which will get you 20% off and should take your bill down to around £1280

Minimum wage is going up so that will impact childcare costs.

Yes, good point! I like to use the amount (less subsidy) because I do expect costs to rise.
